uncompressed?

Yeah I was excited about it but then I looked at the full size jpeg and the softness and moire is still there, which I guess is what you'd expect.

Yeah, I dont get it either. How exactly are they getting uncompressed 4:2:2 from this camera?

Those are scaled images. That is not the actual images from the camera.

Well as I always understood it once you get past the overlays the HDMI does send out uncompressed 4:2:2 out of the 7D. The last I heard it was 20% less than 1920x1080 because it doesn’t quite fill the screen but is still excellent. You should definitely get better colors out of it and better keying.

The only improvement is that.. it's uncompressed! Everything else is the same, although it is worth noting that the image does not fill the entire 1080 lines of the signal, and that a few more lines are lost by the red record icon at the top of the frame when you are recording, but since the camera doesn't resolve anywhere near 1080 lines of resolution, it could be argued that this isn't such a big deal. Also, there is a pulldown to remove which adds an extra step in the post workflow.

So is it worth it? If you don't mind the extra hassle, it very well could be..
