Unable to Import Certain clips within a folder

I'm using FCP 5.1.4. Out of about 1500 clips I am unable to import 76 files into fcp. This is what happens: I click on the add folder option, then add a given folder. But some of the clips within that folder do not show up in the import window after the files appear. I can clearly see the files on the external hard drive - but they just aren't showing up in fcp.

Is there a way to import a single clip rather than trying to use add folder or any other ideas on solving this problem?
 
Are you able to view the clips in the FCP window or are they not showing up at all? If they are not showing up at all you should try another computer or use raylight or p2 log pro to get your missing clips.
 
All of the files are on an external hard drive and were successfully imported previously on this computer (but the old hard drive with the quicktime files crashed so now I'm reimporting forma backup) - so this shouldn't be an issue with the actual p2 cards since those have long been cut out of the process.

And yes - the files simply do not show up in the fcp window at all - but i can see them in the Add Folder browsing window.
