What format of footage does say CBS take for commercials? I am now in the beginning stages of advertising production for a major company and I was wondering if there was anything extreemly important I should know before I shoot. Can I just burn a DVD and give that to them or is there some thing I need that I don't know about.

Contact the broadcaster and ask them directly. Every station has their own requirements for delivery.

Chances are DVD wont' cut it. DV probabaly won't with any larger station either. BETA-SP, DigiBETA, DVCPRO, and DVCAM are probabaly among the formats of choice.

I had raised the question about local and network...because if he is shooting in HD on his HVX than it will matter if delivery is on DVCPRO HD tape or HDCAM tape. Each network has its own specifications. If he's shooting SD than certainly SP, DigiBeta or DVCPRO would suffice.

All the English and Spanish stations in our market take Beta. A couple have said they are willing to go with DVD, but those are independents.

At this point, none of our local affiliates can take a HD dub and air it. Although the ABC affiliate said they will be ready by April and the NBC affiliate will soon follow.
In other words, ya better check each and every one and keep checking with them as things will be changing rapidly.
