GH13 Turn it off or auto off?

I have a GH13 (C settings). I have chosen the option in the Economy menu to have the camera automatically go into standby after 1 min to save battery (and it can be woken up with a half-press of the shutter release). Is there any advantage to fully turning off the camera, versus letting it just shut down automatically? I haven't found any measurable power consumption difference, and the startup sequence seems similar, and I just find waking it up more convenient and quick. Should I still store the camera "fully off" or is there no advantage to doing so?

Read some where (manual?) the reduction of power consumption is 80% in this mode, so will flatten the batteries overnite.

Not surprising I bet the camera would last a really long time idling not doing anything, then factor in the fact that all the screens are off and the sensor is not scanning anything and of course it lasts a good long while.

Just realized where i read the 80% thing, in my HMC 152 Manual two days ago.

Looks like the GH1 is as good as a full power off. Thanks handy to know.

I find this feature extremely useful in an underwater housing...one less control to fit and maintain. Also allows several dives without removing the camera since battery power is automatically conserved when not shooting...auto off is a lot easier for deeper technical dives with high task loading / low brain power due to nitrogen narcosis!

I had a Horrible experience with the Standby function of HMC150.

It was a year before, my cameraman came from a shoot and handed over the Bag to me. When I removed camera from bag, I felt dangerous heat from it, like iron, mainly under the top handle, where the small speaker is situated. Then I discovered it was packed into the bag without turning 'off', 1 hour ago. I thought my camera is dead, since I felt so much heat at the top, I thought something could have melted inside. But thank god, it was OK when I Restarted it.

It was shocking for me, since I thought the standby function turns camera off when we forget to do so.
After this bad accident, for safety, my cameraman always removes battery before packing the cam. And IMO, everyone should.

GH1 on the other hand, turns completely off. And it's Good and Safe too.

I always pack my old XL1 without its battery, and every other traditional video camera I've used, but the GH1 seems fine with its battery. Some DSLRs perform a sensor clean every time the camera starts up (from fully off, but not from "sleep"). Does anyone know if the GH1 automatically cleans its sensor?

The dust reduction function will operate automatically when the camera is turned on in both the gh1 and gh2.

But will it operate when the camera is turning on via a half-press of the shutter button, versus moving the switch from "off" to "on"?
