Tripods

Re: Tripods

what about the vinten video pro5 system?

they look nice, but rush doesn't have em in the store, so maybe they are an older model?

I can get the legs and head for $490, seems like a good price...

Re: Tripods

Hey Rogue Crew

The Cine Deluxe dolly with the 5" wheels that you got, is it pretty smooth and quiet? I was thinking of getting one.

Re: Tripods

Micheal.. your a smart cookie.. The 5 was one of Vintens first DV tripods sourced out to Bogen, and Gitzo had one at that time as well.

In fact, you wont believe it but Vinten, Gitzo, Bogen and Manfrotto, O'conner and Sachtler are all owned by the same company.

I'm gonna call bullshit on that. You are kidding right?

Re: Tripods

nope.. true story. Company called the Vitec Group owns the whole kit and kaboodle. You learn something new everyday :)

Re: Tripods

ha ha.. yeah its a big trend. Tiffen went on its own little shopping spree a few years back as well.

Re: Tripods

I haven't heard any mention of the Manfrotto 516. I'm not happy at all with the 501 pans and tilts. I would like to start and stop a pan with a super smooth action. I practiced on a 503 yesterday and I'm just not happy with the feel. Maybe I'm doing somthing wrong. Please help :-[

Re: Tripods

DV6 is a good head, but if your used to using a real Sacht you will be dissapointed.

Re: Tripods

What's a 'real' Sachtler? I'm assuming a Sachtler for ENG?? I'm also looking at the Vinten Vision 3, is it better? I will be using the Chrosziel mattebox and Century glass up front, so weight is a consideration.

Re: Tripods

no not for ENG.. for 35mm. I shouldn't of put it like that, as it makes it sound like thier video stuff is crap, which its not.

Re: Tripods

The quotes I've gotten show the Vinten Vision 3 and Sachtler DV6 to be pretty close in price, is there a compelling reason to choose one over the other? Service, Reliability etc?

Re: Tripods

Service and Reliability go with Sachtler.. they are pretty industructable. All the Vintens I have used that are a couple years old really don't hold up well, but that could of changed with newer models.

Re: Tripods

My Vinten Vision 3 is a couple of years old and has been used extensively with my 18-20lb DVC200 camera & lens combo. I put Bogen sticks on it though (saved some $$). The darn thing is holding up like a champ. Performs just like it did day 1. Very well.

Re: Tripods

May be I'm biased being an Aussie but Miller make good tripods. I've got a Miller DS-10 and have had no problems with it at all.
Oh by the way over here it is quite evident that Schatler and Manfrotto are in bed together. As a rule in here you get Manfrotto for still photography and Schatler for Video/film, or thats what I've noticed anyway.

Re: Tripods

Just got a Vinten Vision 3 with the #2 spring. Too much, switching to the #1 spring. Nice head.
also own a 12 year old Vision 20. Locks don't lock real tight but otherwise works very well. Vintens feature 180 degree tilt. love that.
Vinten USA very helpful with parts & service. Sent the 20 in about 5 years ago for tune up. They have a loaner program for service. excellent customer service!
