Tripod for GH2 + 701HDV + Glidetrack?

I am going to buy a fluid head , namely the 701HDV, for my GH2. I will mount it on a Glidetrack SD (0.75 m).

What tripod do you recommend for this setup?
I don't want the camera to tip over when moving the camera on the track, but at the same time I don't want the tripod to be too heavy...

Any suggestions?

701HDV? Manfrotto has ton of offerings, no? Depends on your budget and whether you want CF or AL legs.

I have a pretty small budget, around £100, which means CF is out of my range.

Looking at the Manfrotto 190 and 055, unsure if 190 would be enough?

I have the 701 HDV on a 055xdbpro and it's a really great set up. The 055 is much stiffer than the 190 but it's also a lot bigger so you might want to go with the 190 if weight is an issue (I've also used the 190 and never had any complaints about it's rigidity. For a GH2 if you aren't going to have anything else on it (like a rig) the 190 ought to be sufficient. It's really just a question of whether weight matters on not (the 055 is only a little bit more expensive than the 190).

Bite the bullet and get a cheaper head and/or heaver tripod.
Fancier or Konig will do the job without the need to use stabilizing weights.
The 701 itself can be upwards of £100. The only other solution would be to get something like the Manfrotto 190XDB and strap on weights, which means your carrying around a light tripod with weights anyhow.
The GH2 isnt very heavy, just depends on the lens your using. The 190DXDB should be enough.

Maybe you misunderstood me?
What I meant was that the tripod itself can cost up to about 100£, not the tripod +head.

I am worried that if I buy the lighter 190 XPro B and use with my 701hdv, there will be vibrations when going with the GH2 from one end to the other on the Glidetrack. The Glidetrack weights about 1.7 kg.

I already have two smaller tripods, but it is a mess trying to set the Glidetrack up with both.
Would rather have one heavier and stable to carry around.

Yes, I understood. What I ment, was that it sounded like your get a New head and wanted a good "body" for the head. I was suggesting that instead of buying/getting both, just get a whole unit... If that was an option.
I have a tripod the equivalent of the 190DXDB... I dont think I would trust the stability of it with a glide-track without weights.
With the GH2 barebones the setup could work, but start adding equipment and you will need something more solid.
If ya got the head already, then get bigger then the 190. Less to worry about, maybe the 055 as taaltrek suggested.

Thanks, really appreciate your answer!

As for now, I have the Velbon C-600 with a fluid head (can't be removed). The stability is not that great though (total weight of tripod + head about 2 kg), if I don't use my additional Slik Sprint Pro GM II.

You listed a couple of interesting tripods, but their weight of +4 kg makes it a bit cumbersome to carry around, thus I am looking more towards the 055 alternative.

I suggest a 501 head, it's a bit bigger. I always use a head thats rated for almost double the weight of my rig. This ratio has worked well over the years.

I got some Bogen 3221 legs off ebay for $100, they're nice and raise up quite tall. 501 isn't really fluid, though.

i too use a glidetrack on a 701HDV and I recently sold my 501HDV to buy another 701HDV as I think it works so well.

It uses Teflon friction whereas 701 has a fluid cartridge. If you check youtube you'll find a comparison video. When I've used a 501, it seemed pretty smooth, but I believe my 701 makes gentler stops and starts.

Ah, understood. I had no idea. I may throw my 501 up on auction...

I selected Manfrotto 055XPROB for 701HDV. I like the tripod; it is sturdy and easy to use. However, I have noticed that exact balancing takes some time (and Manfrotto has a separate balancing level, probably I need to purchase that).
