Transformers

This movie kinda made me think of the teminator... But I thought it was a lot of fun to watch... The seatbelt trick to get the chick in the lap was awesome!

I went to see the movie last night. I dont think the story was lacking whatsoever. Its about this kid that is trying to get laid. He discovers that he can use his car/robot to convince this chick to put out. And it ends up that it was his great grandfathers glasses being posted on ebay that eventually leads him to getting some. On top of his car no doubt. Wow, awesome!!

You know, honestly I think this is one of the reason's the movie works, because the lead character is someone close to Michael Bay's heart, a guy trying to get laid. Bay once famously said he makes movies so he can buy ferrari's (i.e, so he can get laid). Another funny anecdote, I read the only reason he hooked up with Simpson and Bruckheimer was because Don Simpson called him wanting to know who a girl in one of his commercials was. Yes, this is sadly why many deals are made in Hollywood, because guys want to get laid by hot women.

Great movie, way better than I expected it to be. I give it a 9.2/10!
It is one of the better "crossover" movies I have seen. I think almost as good or better than Spiderman!

Watched it and I liked the movie but I can say that the transformer fan in me was dissapointed, I mean star scream didn't even look like the origional starscream for that matter none of them did. who the hell designed Megatron I'm holding the original one in my hand right now and I can tell you one thing looks nothing like the dude in the movie. I know its just a movie and yeah I liked it as a movie watcher but it could have been more authentic....... to have a tranformer movie without the trade mark starscream voice, DAMN!

OH YEAH i'm holding the origional bumblebee in my hand and its the V.W. BEATLE, I mean who says " oh just make him a camaro they'll never notice it..... anyways chevy will give us more money to showcase the 08 camaro in the movie".

my first movie is going to be called "GEORGE BUSH THE RISE TO POWER" and I'm going to get WESLEY SNIPES to play Bush I don't think anyone will notice.

Trying hard to have the live action version look like the original comes across like what you might expect of a movie like Streetfighter. It'll appear looking goofy and B-movie-ish. The producers took a chance and re-imagined Transformers, and succeeded visually.

There have been lots of discussions on other boards as to why Megatron can't look like a handgun, purely because it requires altering mass, which probably won't go down well with the mainstream audience not used to the original G1 cartoons. Besides, Megatron's new reincarnation looks menacing and if you followed the plot, he crashed landed on Earth in his alien robot form, so he had no chance to select an object to "transform" into.

Bumblebee being a Camaro instead of a VW Beetle was purely a corporate decision by VW with not wanting their products associated with the theme of this movie. Nothing Bay, Spielberg or Murphy could do about it.

Well, Street Fighter was a very lame movie, and a parody. So it was made to look goofy. It was never taken seriously, because the director never understood how serious the fans took the franchise.

Mortal Kombat, a lot lamer than Street Fighter game wise, came out watchable because the story was somehow taken seriously (and, of course, borrowed 90 percent of the script from Enter the Dragon).

As for transformers, haven't seen it. But a Beetle is still a classic car, and a 08 camaro sure isn't. Was it made to make the character look thougher? Or scarier? I don't know. For cute, nothing beats a Beetle (a Mini might come close...). Then again, cinematically, "the beetle" is still Herbie, so maybe the producers didn't want any confusion there..

vw and porche dont want their cars affiliated with war anymore so thats why they couldnt get them.

I like VW and Porsche... especially Porsche :D

Here in Japan we still have to wait until the 24th to watch Transformers :( After reading alot here I cant wait to see it myself and to judge on my own :)

I agree. Expecting a cartoon turned to into a live movie, especially about giant robots that transform, to be almost 100% accurate/true to it's form is just asking for a bad movie.
I actually think they did a great job of making it into live action movie. And in the end, the movie was incredibly fun to watch and very enjoyable. And it still seeed to have more than enough quotes and accuraries to the cartoon to make it good - great. It actually had more than I thought it would originally.

"Autobots..., roll out"

I totally agree and as I said I did enjoy the movie anad also witll be going to watch it again, its just that its so different from the original thats all........... plus it would have been good to see Optimus prime kicking Megatrons ass for atleast 30 seconds Megatron was so much bigger than him and Prime never got 1 lick in Megatron was just manhandling Primes ass.:kali:

I enjoyed it very much.

Good movies so far this summer:
Transformers
1408
Mr. Brooks

My prediction for #1 box office maker of the summer/year - The Simpsons.

SPOILER ALERT

I didn't read all the posts, so I'm sorry if I'm restating someone elses is comments.
I liked the movie. I didn't love the movie.
I was entertained, but I wound up having the same gripes with this movie as I have with others like it in the past.
My problem with movies like this (ID4, Armageddon) is that it can't find it's focus. This film had 97 main characters when you only need one.
Spielberg did it right with War of the Worlds. He focused on one man's perspective on something that was happening world-wide. That makes it believable.
I feel they should have spent more time with the kid and his giant freakin' robot friend. Instead, as soon as he learns he even has a robot it seems we must jump to the next action scene. The friendship of Bumblebee and the kid should have been developed. Then maybe I would have felt bad when Bumblebee was being tortured. I don't think they even needed to show the government side until it came crashing into the kid's world. Then it would have had shock factor.
Instead we had the soldier who just wants to get his job done so he can go home to his wife ad newborn child (Which never concluded by the way) We had the computer genius who was trying to impress the powers that be, and of course the kid and his new car. Too many balls to juggle.

BUT, I was entertained. ILM once again did their job. And it was good enough that I would like to see a sequel with hopefully better storytelling.

But, with Michael Bay, who knows?

Just my 2 cents.

I would have liked it better if the story would have been told through the Transformers pov instead of the humans.

I mean, did we really need to see Sam Witwicky (where did he come from in the Transformers mythos anyway?) in class giving an oral report.

back in the day in the transformers cartoons the autobots had befriended a human boy and i believe that boy had a girlfriend if i'm not mistaken...

. . . and Bumblebee wasn't even a VW beatle.

Eh, so what. They reinvented the story a bit. People are neurotic over Bumblebee being a 70's Camaro (which I actually own so it was a special treat for me) and Optimus Prime having flames. Volkswagon didn't want anything to do with the film. GM did. That's the way it goes.

It was a fun summer popcorn (Michael Bay) movie with something for everybody. Battles, humor, touching scenes and dazzling special f/x. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I'm a Transformers fan from the 80's!

Spike Witwicky ("Sam Witwicky" in the movie) was the boy befriended, especially by Bumblebee. Spike's love interest, Carly (introduced in season 2), is about a year older than him. His father, nicknamed "Sparkplug," was also allied with the Autobots.
