Transfer speed with Addonics/Duel Adapter?

I've read rumors of speed decreases between using an actual PCMCIA slot as opposed to using either the Addonics or Duel Adapters. From what I've read, using an adapter means a speed decrease of about 400% (in other words, you can transfer four times faster with a PCMCIA slot instead of an adapter to ExpressCard) Is this true? I'm debating whether to purchase a new laptop with PCMCIA or to purchase an adapter. I'll be doing a lot of dumping in the field since I can't afford a lot of P2 and I'm wondering what sacrifices I'll make with transfer speeds on the adapters.

Anyone who's actually used both got some input? I'll be using a PC laptop, not a Mac :undecided so either adapter would work for me.

If you're going with a Windows laptop, why not just get the PCMCIA slot in the first place? I'd highly recommend that route.

There should be no drop in speed whatsoever between using a Duel or Addonics, and using a straight PCMCIA card. But seeing as you can buy new laptops that include both the PCMCIA and ExpressCard slots, why even bother with an adapter?

Reason being that the college I work for already has a number of laptops in stock without the PCMCIA slot. They'd have to buy a new laptop from a different vendor (they use all Dell's which apparently don't offer them anymore) and they'd rather not do that.

Thanks guys... I got mixed up. I was thinking the transfer speed of the direct card transfer vs. USB transfer, and not PCMCIA vs. adapter speed. Thanks!

Thanks Barry, turns out they don't have any laptops currently in stock anyway so I'm trying to talk them into getting the Lenovo based on your recommendations in other threads I've read.
