Trampoline + Girlfriend

Whenever I see people jumping on those things I think of their knees bending backwards. It still looked good though

Well I have obtained alot of stock film-burns. I just overlay them with a screen key which keys out the darks gradually. I could make a little tutorial on making film burns. But I only use levels for the color grading.

That would be excellent, I did that with some flares I made with some slr lenses, I'm sure it couldn't be too different with some film burns. where did you obtain the stock footage?

thanks!

Thanks for the clarification, Matt.

And, for the record, I was able to do a decent film burn with less than 5 minutes work in AE with Levels. I imagine if I put a little time into it, it could be very nice.

Well, It usually takes a few clicks to get my film burns in my video, I just drag the video-only quicktime files on a second layer in premiere and put a screen key on it. When I get home I'll upload my film burns to my server in a zip file, then I'll post them here.

All you have to do is put your film burn clip on a higher layer and then screen key it and then you have a professional (well professional for what us dvxers are doing) looking film flash.

(I'm not debating quickness. I wouldnt use the Levels to do this as there are better options that are just as quick.)
I was merely responding to this:

No idea how you'd use levels for moving film burn..

Im guessing you used a lot of moving mattes right? the hard part I'd see about using levels is getting the burn move/flare to look organic enough. I never could pull off anything decently organic looking while keyframing

either way though, thanks a bunch to both of you

Guys, I didn't use levels for the film burn, the film burn is just a video file of a film burn that I put over the video and screen keyed it so it was transparent. Levels was used to color grade, there is no way of making a film burn with levels.

I don't support selling a DVX to buy a consumer cam,
but why is the fast shutter so important? Isn't it unnatural?

I sold it to go HD and afford a Steadicam Merlin as well. The HV20 is great for what it is but I repeat, it cannot pull off what Matt has done here. The image simply breaks down with quick camera movements. Thanks for the film burn tips....

I know, i was responding to gagefx's attempt at doing it with levels

Sure you can. Lock the shutter. There's a tutorial here somewhere. You'll need a mini SD card and it will take a little more work, but you can do it. As a matter of fact check out: http://prolost.blogspot.com/2007/08/taming-toy.html

I gave my DVX to my producer (So it's still generally available to me) and he bought me the HV20, adapter and lens. After playing around with it, I can see it's good and it's flaws, but after figuring the transcoding issue out I'm not sorry I did it. I almost sold "Wages of Sin" in a UK market. The buyer was a fan of martial arts films and had taken kickboxing himself when he was young. I lost the deal because they wanted it on HD. I hope to buy a 1Tb drive, shoot and chop natively (or transcode) and push it out at HDV or DVC ProHD resolution then conform the heck out of it to get it to 25p. (If they even ask for it at 25p). Of course with the HCM-150 looming who knows, but the HV20 is not a punk camera. It's not the DVX100 but it's more than capable.

I just have my project settings set up for 855 by 480. I like working in a native 16:9 format but not quite HD, my comp can't handle it.
