Training?

Okay, so I'm a Red reserve with my Dad and I'm starting to wonder about training for this camera. I've used tons of prosumer cameras (XL1s, PD170, DVX100, Z1u, etc) but nothing of the caliber of Red before. I can read training materials, but I am going to need some real training in my camera. What plans do you guys, Red corp, have for training? I'm sure Jarred will have a Red bootcamp and I hope to attend that, but if I can't then what else is for me? I will be at NAB 07, will you guys have official training then? If I fly down to your HQ to pick up my camera would someone be able to show me how to use it? Perhaps an official DVD training that would come with the package? ....
Thanks,
-Shawn

Supply and demand. There will obviously be a demand for RED bootcamps, workshops, and training materials. When the first cameras ship there will probably not be any of those items available, simply because the camera and accessories will need to be field tested extensively in order to create such materials. Rest assured that the demand for RED training materials will eventually be filled by products, bootcamps, etc. If you have a mid to late camera reservation number, my guess is that you'll stand a good chance of having workshops and training materials ready at the same time you take delivery of your camera system.

It's not just people who are moving up from "prosumer" cameras that will take advantage of training materials and workshops. Seasoned high-end pros are on time budgets, and I'd guess that many of them would fast track their RED learning curve by attending RED workshops and buying training materials.

RED has not yet defined their plans for workshops and training materials. I'm sure they are aware of the demand/need for such. Jarred will no doubt offer RED bootcamps - and my opinion is that they will be very good, based on the quality of his HVX and DVX bootcamps.

Training / RED Operation

Training / RED Operation

Great questions, and we'll certainly be chatting with Jarred.

On a related subject: One of the most overlooked aspects of training IMHO, is that existing video camera operation is WAY too complex, with menu structures infested with jargon, crypic abbreviations and horrendous complexity. One of our key goals at RED is provided you know the principles of photography / cinematography i.e. framing, focus, exposure index, shutter speed - and are comfortable with operating your camera in full manual mode - then you already know enough to shoot with RED.

The RAW data workflow is so much easier to deal with as an operator than more traditional 4:2:2 video capture, but even if shooting RGB or 4:2:2 with RED, we are determined to eliminate the operational complexity that plagues existing camcorders.

Very cool, indeed. I look forward to attending RED Bootcamp in NYC sometime next year.

I'm assuming that the RED One package will come with some kind of instruction manual. If I may request, please try to make it as clean, clear, and sraightforward as possible. And, pretty please, try to keep the font size within the realm of legibility.

Training by reading online?

Training by reading online?

My hope is that there is a forum for Red Owners only (others can lurk) but only Red Owners/Makers can post. I hate to be so harsh, but professional tools demand high signal to noise ratios in more than just their sensors.
