FEATURE: TRAILER - SUPERSEEDS | Super Powered Adventure

I'd e surprised if foreign sales agents insisted on a film festival run. Assuming foreign sales was enough to recoup, from what I understand, it'd be highly desirable to simply retain domestic rights and self distro in the U.S. and Canada.

The plight of a micro-indie....

Welllll I dunno how foreign will go. I suspect that like Russia and France, those will be solid Territories but not sure on the rest? One thing is for sure: until you have a deal signed and sealed it's all up in the air.

I know we won't have an issue recovering the budget, it's just a matter of how you know?

Truer words have rarely been typed :)

Need to be doing the outreach to the distribs in the interim...by now you should have tons extremely interested in seeing it when you're done based on the materials you've got and the interest you've piqued.

I'm confident you'll do very well.

But I'm anxious to see it too!

Been tryin' to figure out when a good time to contact would be. Since I can't properly estimate the finish date, feels like we would get interest then lose it so I'm still waiting it out. But maybe next month we'll start the push. We also need to get a really solid poster and banner with characters etc going, maybe two serious variations of both. Can't go out without those.

Thanks for the vote, as always. =P

you are on your way to super stardom dude!

Your blue dude scares me often. What is that from?

Hey Kholi,

Congrats on your feature, the trailer looks great! Thinking of distribution, here is an idea completely out of the box.

Check out this platform, that lets you sell distribution micro-licenses city by city and create partnerships on a city by city basis. The idea is that you create motivated promoters in each city by split revenue with them. The platform track all sales via IP addresses.

Theoretically you could have 100K in your pocket even before you sold 1 download and still keep 100% ownership of your film.

Here is an example on their site.
http://sokap.com/project/licenses/pid/29/country/United+States/at/2/state/CALIFORNIA/#licenses

If you plan on touring with the film at festivals it gives added incentive to create partnership in those cities where your film is going to be playing. An example of a partner might be a local newspaper that can run adds of your film and benefit from the sales that result from those ads.

Hmmm I'll say that I've actually whiffed this, and with no disrepect meant to anyone, it isn't the type of thing I'd be interested in doing, personally. It honestly seems like MLM (to put it more politely) and I almost got duped by that once, when I was nineteen. Now I'm very aware of these things, and they just don't work out well for people.

I do appreciate the hint, for sure! I encourage filmmakers to take a deep look into things ilke this and decide for yourself if it's worth your time or your effort, and make sure that it's as legit as possible for your own sake. I'm all for self distribution, trust me, but I don't think this is the way to go.

Again, thanks Garnet!

Hmmm they might have to rethink how they have things worded if thats how its coming across to people... MLM has such a negative stigma to it. I come from a online marketing background and referral marketing is pretty common in most evolving online strategies these days. I guess we will see how they fare since they are in beta mode.

thats from my project Monsters! bit of fun.jpg
Sorry! Didnt mean to scare yah - they are monsters - but they are just like us!
In post now - but im following superseeds and cant wait to see more!
Awesauce!

Timing... Kholi, I feel that you're right on timing the outreach to distributors. It's crucial. I believe that it depends on your goal . Are you trying to finish on your own and sell the movie? Are you seeking finishing funds? Do you intend to self distribute?

1) If you intend the sell the film after completion, you will need to have everything in place. They can change your deliverables (promotions and cut of the film) but it's a good idea to show that you put thought into it. I would compare this to the hip hop scene in Houston between 2004 and 2007 (Oakland, Atlanta, NY, and New Orleans did the same at various times). Actually Tyler Perry is the best film example right now. He funded 10 episodes of House of Payne. Also he sold all of his stageplay DVDs on his own site (for high prices over $30 a pop). Lions Gate took over most of that (stageplay sales and films) and TBS took over the rest in terms of tv distro. That would require you having your marketing plan and materials together prior to reaching out to those distro houses.

2) Searching for finishing funds? You trailer should be good enough. Plus add your ideas on the finished product. They might wanna see the script as well, unless it's Kickstarter. Definitely want to know how they will be paid in the end if they are investors. Angel investors would be a blessing.

3) If you intent to self distribute, it doesn't matter when you contact distributors unless you just want to create a buzz.

The script is key in some of these areas. If you have a complete script, you can gain interest from financiers/distro as well. You could try getting it into the "Black List" by submitting to qualifiers as you move forward. It might also need an agent or lawyer but it might be something to think about. If you're writing as you go, it might be tougher to finish. Also, if they see your project "in progress" and you don't have the script completed, some of them will complete a script very similar and get the film made shortly thereafter. "Roll Bounce" was done this way. I interviewed the filmmaker that created the documentary. He was asked to have a script to the producers in less than 1 month. He didn't. They finished a script in about 3 weeks. Roll Bounce was born. The documentarian received credit as a line producer.

Also without a set date for completion, you're stringing yourself along. It's like the Mayweather and Pacquiao fight or the Dr. Dre Rehab project. People wanna see/heear it but the further you go, they more inclined they are to say "f- it". You even mentioned before about spending years on one project versus moving on. Give yourself an opportunity to do more films by setting a date. Money is almost always an issue but you owe it to yourself.

The date thing is an interesting topic (I did read your entire post, good info and thoughts). I seriously thought we could've wrapped this thing up in less than a year but we're over a year now. It's of no fault other than a lack of budget and experience, though. Hoping there won't be too much lost interest, but that's exactly why we haven't started attacking the distribution front just yet.

Our thoughts are that as soon as we get to a cut that's about 90 percent done (audio, vfx, score) then we'll re-cut the trailer, re-grade, build a better website, and get two posters done. That's when we'll start going to distributors and exhausting our contacts and in the end, if that doesn't work, then we've already got another Plan A.

Waiting... is definitely killing me. But, not gonna stop doing stuff just because of that.

Kholi, I'm in the same exact boat that you're in. Although my composer is scoring the film right now, there are still tons of changes I'm having to make just to make sure the film is right and the absolute best that it can be. The boat that we're in means that we absolutely cannot slip. Everything from top to bottom has to be on point and it has to be like that if we want to compete with Hollywood type, professional films. Right now the sound design is kicking my butt, but I've got to make sure that it's right or my film will be simply dismissed as another indie.

Keep pushing to make it great!

I think we will be officially done early April. Score is being plugged in and we are on the tail end of vfx stuff.

Long road... Oi.

Next camp post should be interesting. I think a lot of people will understand it.

Cool. Good to hear an update.

Definitely a new trailer. Although it won't change drastically, just better/tighter and some new moments.
