Toy Story 3

I don't know. It's tough to believe that they can sustain the greatness of the first two...

...but then again we *are* talking about Pixar.

It was simply amazing... Tears to my eyes, though I grew up with these films, so I'm sure I have some bias. Honestly though, I don't know how anyone could not relate (provided you're not, ironically enough, a kid) to the ending.

First one great , second had that overdone sequel feel to it ...ofcourse animation itself was always top notch .

Love to see this one though !

WoW! Pixar does it again. I can't believe the emotional connect that they are able to create time in and time out. You could hear people sniffling and crying throughout the entire theater towards the end.

This one had a much darker tone to it in parts. Completely enjoyable throughout for this viewer.
My daughter was glued to it. Loved every minute.

This may be the best trilogy in existence.

Hey Dado. Just a couple odd things.
I think I posted before that TS3 has some of the best looking, cleanest renders of all the major animation studios.

We'll Pixar's render engine, in house software, you can bet is thee state of the art.
I was reading recently about some recent improvements they've made in rendering bounced light. Something that has never been achieved before in film animations to date due to the time involved in rendering. I read an article describing the process and methods also.

I think most of this might go unnoticed at least to the untechnical eye, and certainly to mine from the renders I saw. But overall I suppose it has some kind of effect.

As for cleanest render, I haven't seen T3 yet, but I was very impressed with the quality of Planet 51. In fact, I was blown away and inspired by it as far as detail in animation renders go. Apparently the most expensive film to come out of Spain to date.

If you get a chance to review it I'd be happy to hear your thoughts, seriously. I loved it.

None of the artifacts that I always see from Dreamworks and a mile ahead of Blue Sky.

Artifacts? From Dreamworks and BlueSky? Check your system dude.

But I didn't really care for the movie, I felt it was "kids stuff".

Yeah, I know, that's kind of the idea. For an adult, it's more of an appreciation of the accomplishment (and the odd adult joke they might toss in). That is to say, everything that makes a great movie great, is what can be appreciated here. The end result is an animation but barring that everything else down the pipe is pure movie making. Need I explain? I think not.

Some of the parts were very humorous, and the CG and animation were truly a joy to watch and miles ahead of the original TS.

Again, I haven't seen it but yeah, they're always updating their render engines.
Also their animators are the best in the biz in many people opinion, many coming from or having learned/learning from the former Disney camp.

The 3D is not that aggressive, or showy, so if you see it in 2D it probably won't make that much of a difference. They use a lot of DOF blurring, so just like in live action shooting, shallow DOF gives it a built in 3D look.

No comment there.

Yeah, wanted to join in the conversation I guess.
I didn't agree with a few things you said but I appreciate hearing different opinions.

-Cheers man.

BOO! 2 people took away it's 100% status....lame.

Gotcha!

Just watched Toy Story 2 with my daughter as a warm up to part 3...On the bonus features there are short little animated 'production stories', and my favorite is the one where someone accidentally sent the ERASE EVERYTHING command to the mainframe. As about a years worth of work was vanishing they screamed at the tech to pull the plug on everything. They did, but alas, almost everything was gone. They were just about to kill themselves when someone remembered one of the animators just had a baby and was working from home, so she had an entire copy of the film on her home computer. They took it to the office and where able to get everything back.

Okay, anyone who sets up a system where a SINGLE COMMAND, without multiple verifications, can erase all of that needs to find a new line of work.

I've watched all three of these now in the past few days, and I think #2 is still my favorite. #3 is very close...but the beginning was weaker than the others I think. By weaker I don't mean bad by any means...not even OK, it was really great, but I found #2 to be just a better film overall. The laughs in #2, the references to other movies, the story, etc. everything felt like it was a bit better than what #3 had to offer.

I loved the ending of #3 though, very good. The darker tones were a welcomed treat as well, because most of the issues dealt with in #2 and #3 are things that kids can understand but adults can understand to a greater degree. Abandonment for instance...that can be a very sad thing to dive into and these films practically charged at that issue. Good for pixar! :)

#3 and #2 are really close, but #2 edges out for various reasons. Although #3 brought in some of the things that #2 did, a large majority of them had been done before in #2 so although different in #3...it didn't have the same punch as it did when I saw it originally (ie bringing back Buzz to his original state, or having a villain painted as a good guy at first but instead turning out to be the opposite). Either way great movie.

Best trilogy ever I think, in regards to each film being extremely solid and building upon the other in a focused and mature manner.
