You can adjust the recording level from 1-19
Quick question Erik, on your most recent piece can you give us some technical details?
Iso, shutter speed, f stop and did you use any filters in front of your lenses?
Thanks

Frame Rate.
24P
ISO.
I set the ISO at 400.
Shutter.
Shutter was set to 1/50 but I did bump it to 1/60 a couple of times. The fountain shots I think I had set it to 1/60.
F-Stop.
Mostly 2.8 and some 5.6 but I like separation. The shots with the tree in the foreground I closed down a bit. The saxophone guy was to blurry! The 35-100 is just a great lens. I wanted to get in closer. I like tight shots. It shows detail and I wanted to see how the camera resolves it. Tighter shots does that better than wide. I wish I had a 200mm!
Filter.
I used a Heliopan Variable ND filter. It never cam off the lens. This is the best you can get and I think this video proves it. No sense using a cheap filter on good glass!
The low angle of the guy playing the didgeridoo I used the Lumix 7-14 at 7mm. I love this lens. I think it's a must have for MFT cameras.
Exactly. Buy a larger one and adapt it to your smaller lenses. The heliopan really is the best. Genus just released a new one that might be nice as well. http://www.hdwarrior.co.uk/2012/12/04/genustech-eclipse-variable-nd-fader-77mm-8-stops/FWIW, I bought the helio from Germany, with in a 72mm size - the cost was different depending on size, with smaller sizes cheaper. They had one larger size than 72, but from my point of view I thought most lenses were 72mm and smaller. The solution is to simply use step rings to bring it down from 72 to whatever lens size you need, and I just bought a set of such rings that go up and go down (and include a 72--->58) and the sets were only like $20 or something. If you buy the larger ND, you have more options, because you can cover more lenses, if you buy a smaller one, you are out of luck on a larger lens. Ergo, it makes sense to pay a bit more and get the larger one, IMHO.
I bought the 58mm for the two lenses and step downs for the smaller MFT lenses I have. I don't use my EF lenses on any camera that doesn't have ND built in so I felt like saving a few bucks on the smaller size.Erik, I am also planning to buy one of those heliopan filters but I'm not sure which size. The 35-100 and the 12-35 both have 58mm filter threads. What's the thread size of your heliopan filter? Does it vignette at 12mm?
2 Questions for owners:
1. Does the GH3 still have the auto audio options that the GH2 has? I somewhat prefer them for event work. Lol, where the hell is that AGC!!! Kidding. Kind of.
2. Can you adjust ISO while recording? I'm considering diverting back to standard ND filters if I have more flexibility with the ISO.
bump. sorry. if someone wouldn't mind taking a couple minutes with there GH3 to figure out adjusting ISO while recording is possible, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
hi erik,
really nice footage...did you use just af with your 35-100 for focus? wonder if it is possible to get a sharp image just with the evf or the lcd
without any loupe or external monitor?
