GH3 Took The GH3 Out For A Test Drive Today

I just received the GH3 on Saturday afternoon but was to busy to get out and shoot with it. Today was a little less crazy. I shot and edited this in about 5 hours. No post grading was done. I think I have room to push it around and get a nice grade. I didn't know what I was going to shoot so I kind just went along for the ride to see what I would end up with. I tried to get lots of contrasty shots to see how the GH3 would handle the highlights.
I'm pooped! Time to crash.

I just realized that the camera settings for recording was in AVCHD at 24Mbps. I forgot to switch it back to ALL-Intra 72Mpbs after shooting around the house. I'm so pissed at my self! Oh well. Sorry about that. ISO was set to 400.

Whoa. The musician footage is superb.
You might just be changing my mind about this camera.

Great stuff - really appreciate you going out and getting decent footage!

Thank you! You have NO IDEA how much I detest test that mean nothing to me. I mean they are good for specs but what I REALLY enjoy is watching an actual project be placed together. Great job, footage looks nice. By the way I downloaded the original file....

I know what you mean.
There are only so many swaying plants, cats and lens-flare sun shots I can handle.
 
Now this video really excited me to get my hands on my GH3 when it arrives on Wednesday! Would you please tell us if this was the 72mb setting and what mic you used? If this was shot in highest def and All-Intra, did you edit in Final Cut and how did the computer hold up? Thanks!
 
looks good! I wish I had interesting stuff to shoot where i live. At times I just want to go out shoot. You used a tripod I suppose?

Wow, looks excellent even at the lower setting. Can't imagine what the highest setting what have looked like.... Well, must go out and shoot again, lol.....

I did use a tripod. Some tight shots where hand held with OIS on. Works very well.
 
Funny you shot with the AVCHD mode on accident, but the footage looks great.

The DR has definitely been increased. I don't know by how many stops but it's there.

The color is much much better.

Cojldnt spot Bandung no matter how I peeped. Plenty of situations for it though.

Don't ask me how or why, but it is a ton more flexible in post than any DSLR out there, and I am pretty sure the AF100 and FS100.

Rokling shutter looks improved. Lots of handheld.

Noise is tame and smooth. Looks nice.

Detail in avchd looks like gh2 unhacked.

Lowlight is much better. Confiden better.

Slow and fast motion looks great. So does 60P.

When PV gets ahold of firmware it old get nasty.

I posted this a while back after seeing some very early GH3 test footage that was never released.

This stuff actually looks pretty decent, much more reminiscent of the GH2. Thanks for sharing. Now I want to see more AVCHD material.
 
Kholi i'm so pissed at myself! The ALL-Intra codec was for me what I wanted too see the most and I screwed that up! :Drogar-Thinking(DBG

If I upload a ProRes version to Vimeo will people be able to download that? I usually use Vimeo compression settings but if people want to download the video and see it less compressed I will do it.
 
Thing is, I want to see more AVCHD stuff as well, because it looked better to me than the ALL-I material back when I saw the two compared before camera was released. So far though everyone's been more concerned with the ALL-I, so.

You can upload ProRes to Vimeo, just gonna be a huge file!

What about the 50Mbps Long GOP option? Shouldn't that be better as well?

I think the "Apocalypse Now" settings color matrix with All-I at 100Mbps or greater will be the Holy Grail of a hacked GH3. Frankly, I hope there's a way to set up LOG style shooting settings with a hacked GH3.
