Tokina 11-16mm Questions?

I understand for landscape shots ( mountains, grass areas etc ) this lens is great, but how about shooting people in front of a building?

I know that these Canon cameras are not the best at deep wide shots and perform better at close ups, so to what advantage if any would the Tokina 11-16mm give me?

I will be shooting a Singer who wants their location in front of an apartment building and people behind them, my thinking is the tokina 11-16mm would allow everyone to be in the shot, but at what quality would I lose?

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Thanks

I tested this lens with people and as long as they are far enough from the camera it will work ok.
If they are close to the camera their heads will change shape dramatically from center frame to the sides. Another thing I noticed with the 11-16 is when you pan at 11mm the perspective is so distorted that it's very obvious what lens you are using. Almost like a fisheye lens with straight lines corrected. Good for effect, but not all the time.
At 16mm the lens is more well behaved in terms of distortion, so even though it only zooms from 11 to 16mm this does offer a lot more flexibility than you may think.

I'm not sure exactly what you want to know except that if you are outside with a deep f-stop and are shooting wide with the 11-16 you'll have plenty of depth of field. At the wide end it can look a little jokey and distorted but that's a what a wide angle does. Its a great lens. Sharp, less distortion than cheap glass but enough to still be fun. You won't lose any quality as its top notch glass.

Good lens, very sharp. Only problem with the 7D is that it aliases very badly (even in 1080. 720 is useless almost) because it's so wide and sharp. Pans are an aliasing mess with this lens. But locked off shots at 1080 can look good. If you shoot it at a lower f-stop, it helps with the aliasing and moire.

On the Canons, the wider and sharper the lens, the more aliasing there is.
