Where is your Infinity spot...

I've found that my Infinity sits at 1/2 way between the ∞ sign...

I've been doing night time-lapse shots of stars and seems to be working...

Cheers

same here. seems like i've got an extra 1-2mm of room on the focus barrel, but my focus assist says it's at infinity. i'm waiting on my intervalometer to come in from linkdelight so i can shoot some timelapses. it's been 2 weeks already.

Cool... I'm just downloading last nights test where the ∞ was set o 1/2 way and exposed at 30sec frames for about 5 hrs... will see the focus then...

I have done some with the focus on full lock on the barrel and it seemed a little soft...

Cheers

PS... I bought from here and seems to work well... 4 days to deliver...

Might buy a second as a spare as they are very cheap....

"Silly me seems like you bought from the same person also"

Hi,
Looking at your footage, you've got some pretty orange clouds there!
How's your light pollution, and what's your limiting visual magnitude?
As you can see from my profile, I'm in London and the LP's pretty dire, 4.5 on a good night!
Cheers,
Dave

i'm still waiting for my timer remote. it says exposures range from 5-30 sec. i'm guessing you had each individual clip manually set, and that variance is clip to clip. those timelapses looked really smooth. did your exposure last the total duration of the shot? i guess i mean, if you're exposure is 5 seconds, are you taking 12 shots per second? i haven't gotten to test anything yet, but i'm guessing that's what makes some of these videos appear much smoother than others. was all your camera movement done in post?

Hi.... wow... had to look up google about this " limiting visual magnitude" ... and in the end I have no idea... the orange in the clouds would be the reflections from city light's I guess..... I'm just shooting these star's from home.... hope to get out into the country to film at some stage.... Canberra where I live is known as the Bush Capital and there is only 300k people so pretty small city...

The 5 - 30sec exposures are shot one after each other...

So in the case of street traffic.... the shots were taken at 5sec exposure f 3.5 and as quickly as the camera can shoot them.. so I think the meter was set to shoot unlimited pics at 1 sec interval... that is a s soon as one picture was finished and processed the next shot was taken...

The stars are shot at 30 sec exposures f3.2 at ISO 200 with the Tokina 11-16mm set at 12mm... colour temp is 5000k...

Once again the shots are taken as soon as one photo is finished the next is shot... I think the timer was set to about 9sec... as the camera seems to take a while to process 30sec exposures (not sure why though)...

So for smooth motion I think you want to shoot the next frame as soon as possible... so the subjects don't change too much from frame to frame....

Also I found fiddling around once you start shooting is a big no-no... I can plug in the laptop and steal a couple of frames to check as the animation is going.. but generally things just stuff up with the animation if you stop and start... etc...

So now I've got lazy... take a bit of time in setting up.. check everything twice.. and then forget about it and let nature do the rest...

On a 16gb card I can get 530 odd Raw pics.. which at 30sec exposures is about 4hrs of shooting..
I've fallen asleep a couple of times and came out to the camera fogged up and out of battery...

Cheers
