To 7D or not to 7D?

yeah, if you shoot event footage, why don't you keep the a1 around and set it up on a tripod somewhere to get your wide shot coverage? the fact that it doesn't have a recording limit (running 2-3 hours to tape) and the 7d doesn't really excel in wide establishing shots anyway, plus that it can't hurt to have extra cameras in event coverage make that seem like a good choice. and you probably wouldn't need an adapter for that so you could sell the sgblade and use that money towards the camera.

Teddybear,
what lens did you use for the Bantayan island video? Did you have to stabilize the footage at all during post-production? I'm just noticing that your panning looks very smooth in the video -- much smoother than what I get on my EOS 7d with a Canon 10-22 lens. I like everything about the 10-22 except the shakiness of the footage... is the Tokina lens any different?
Thanks!

I was also in a similar situation, except I had JVC HD100/200+35mm adapter also with NIKON mount lenses.

I got a 7D & went with nikon to canon adapters on my nikons and sigmas. The only canon mount lens i got was a wide 11-16 f2.8 tokina.

Its like a yoke was taken off me and my grips' shoulders. Everything is now lightweight.

I'm shooting a documentary in an environment where I have to be very low-key -- can't have the camera attached to a lot of equipment. Lots of run and gun shooting...
Thanks for your advice!

Monterocas,

I used several lenses in the Bantayan video, 50mm f1.4 old nikkor, 80-200 f2.8 nikon, 20-40mm f2.8 sigma, 11-16mm f2.8 Tokina. For that particular video, no stabilization in post was done. Just control your panning speed and youll be fine, make sure you have a decent tripod. I only use a 503 manfrotto head.
