Timelapse with Intervalometer on GH1

DonalDuc,

Which cable do you use on your timer for the GH1?

I have both a Pentax dSLR and now this GH1, so I'm very intrigued by the universal timer.

From what I can well, I need the "P6" end . I see other versions of the timer on eBay, btu not the "P6" version.

I don't believe that's the case. The Canon 4x0D uses the same as my Pentax, and I found info on the interwebs specifically stating that the Pentax won't work with the Panasonic. The Pentax system is 2.5mm with 3 rings. Panasonic uses 2.5mm with 4 rings.

The seller on eBay said there are no P6 cables available.

I have emailed the manufacturer directly.

If I can order cables from China, would anybody be interested in one?

I want to grab the phottix one from ebay which is identical to the delmax. they never reply to my messages so they suck on that part..ha

why not just go to your local electronic place and make one up(the cable that is)? I think that's the route I might take if i go ahead and buy the phottix unit.

I'm going to try and call their US people today, and then if I don't get a good answer just go for it.

I just called the number and it's busy...that's not a bad sign, but it's not exactly a confidence boost!

I am working on a project now and need some Timelapse stuff.

Time is of the essence, and I spent all day yesterday waiting around for people to respond to my questions (ebay sellers and such, not here).

So I just broke down and bought the timer. You can find it for $48 on eBay if you search for "Nikos"

I bought the Pentax version since I have a Pentax dSLR as well.

That's coming from Hong King

I found some instructions to make your own G1 remote shutter. They involved buying a Nokia headset, chopping the cable, and soldering on some resistors.

Well I decided to try a different approach. Instead of spending $5 for a Nokia cable on eBay, I spent $8 and bought a (Timerless) GH1 remote shutter. At worst I'll have the right connector -- but at best, I'll have the right connector, and the right resistors too! We'll see.

Hi! Remember this thread?

My remote shutter finally came today. Guess custom's has been running extra slow.

Ripped the thing apart...I was hoping inside I would find a tiny circuit board taking an on/off input and turn it into the resistorized input the Panasonic is looking for.

Instead I I just found what's essentially a big switch...so essentially I paid $8 (and waited 3 weeks) for the right connection and the right resistors :)

I'm going to try and cobble something together tomorrow to make it all work.

Ok I had other stuff to do, but I went ahead and tinkered with this tonight, probably because I've been waiting weeks to have the chance.

You plug in a 4-connector connection thing. 2 of the connections do nothing, and the other 2 run about 40...uhh...I don't know my units, sorry, I'll try and get more technical later, but 40 resistance. So then when you want to focus, you drop that 40 to 6, and then when you want shutter, you drop it to 2.

So the method I attempted to try (and I think it was crummy workmanship on those itty itty itty bitty wires holding me back) was to let the timer step in and provide a shortcut path over some of the resistors, depending on half-press or full press. Words to describe it are escaping me, so I'll just paste a picture in.

Homefully some time this upcoming week I'll get the real soldering iron out and go to town trying to make this work...

Yeah thanks, was at a loss for that the other night. Working through the Civil Engineering classes they make Mechanical Engineers take. Obviously haven't been through the Electrical Engineering classes yet ;)

School got busy and this stalled, but Finals are over this week, so I should be able to make this work.

Well bad news,

I don't know --- maybe my timer is defective, but now matter how I try it, I can't it it to short the connections the way it's supposed to. When the timer is in bulb mode, I should get a short across the connector. I even confirmed this with a wireless shutter release. On the Phottix, instead of a "short" I get about 6 ohms resistance, and there doesn't seem to be any way around this.

I've tinkered with this for hours -- and I need to do a timelapse with my GH1 next week, so I punted and just ordered a GH1 specific timer from eBay. Am I thrilled about that? No...but what do you do?

I just picked up the JJC TM series time remote and it works great. ONly complaint so far is that it's easy to turn it on or off so other than that.. what a great purchase for 40 bucks. I too might end up buying a 2nd one just in case this craps out...

Finally back to the land of timelapses....
