Timelapse with Intervalometer on GH1

Haven't found another topic about this. Pardon any redundancy.

So guys, only thing seems to be missing on this baby is an intervalometer. I've seen some questionable units from overseas on ebay for 45$. Doesn't seem like a huge loss to give it a try, but a big focus for me getting this baby is mounting to my motion control dolly and getting 4k sized timelapse video in the RAW.

Anybody try out any of these off brand things or know of a better solution?
:dankk2:

I don't have a GH1 yet but have done a lot of time lapse with a Norris on an Arri IIC. I want to hook it up the the GH1 when I get it. I think the GH1 has an electronic cable switch for remote trigger.
The Norris if just a rotating cam shaft controlled by a basic electronic timer. The shaft has a raised spot on the cam to trigger the camera for each frame. The Norris turns half way to open the shutter and a second turn to close it. That's for film. The GH1 only has to be triggered once per frame and that camera takes care of the frame timing and exposure. The Norris is $2,700 and cheap brands are not as good and will still cost you.
What might work just as well for a few bucks is a small geared down DC motor with a variable speed control. (maybe from cheap a toy RC car etc) Make a raised spot on the shaft so it triggers your GH1 cable each time it turns around. Connect it all together with gaffers tape and glue for starters.
It will probably work great, and cost you nothing to try. Good luck.

search ebay: g1 timer... They work just fine despite the build quality. It's not a complex device.

Be aware that the g1 and gh1 have a 4 pole plug connection for the trigger. It's looking for 2K resistance for trigger 4K resistance for focus. So basically if you open/close the circuit it doesn't work.

ROCKMORE...IMHO that's overkill to the max! Why not spend $50 and call it a day. Get two or three if your worried about unit failures.

I bought one from the folks at ebay on the recommendation of a fellow DVXUser. It works very well and was sixty bucks Cdn. delivered.

Is it the "JJC Timer"?

MAN! I've so been wanting to test this: yank out the gate and film drive from the IIC, take off the lens from the GH1 and stick it where the gate was. Figure out some way to sync the mirror and BAM! A digital motion camera with a reflex optical viewfinder! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Today my JJC timer arrived but when I connected it to my GH1 it did nothing. Can you tell me waht I did wrong. I updated the firmware to 1.1 can that be the problem.

This is great news, I didn't know such a thing existed, I hate the speeded up video method of time lapse, it just seems wrong. I have done a fair bit of time lapse using my Ricoh GX 100, but it has minimum of one frame every 5 seconds, which is too jerky for most things, only really good for clouds.

So this device will let you take interval of 1 frame per second until the card fills or battery dies?

This forum is great for learning stuff.

Timer Remote Control for GH1

Timer Remote Control for GH1

Hi, i use a Timer from JJC Technology japan, i bought the timer in germany on www.enjoyyourcamera.com "JJC TM-Series"

I'am shooting right now sunset(clouds) timelapsed in Dortmund Germany.

Greetings

I'm using a Delamax timer - it's cheaper (-20%) than JJC, but has same functions. Aaaaaand it has NO FIXED cable, you can use it with EVERY camera - Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic ... only change cable with connector.

Of course it works well with G1 and GH1

Same remote you get under the name "Phottix" ---> enjoyyourcamera - but € 30 more expensive :-(

verzögerte Auslösung: 1s - 99h 59min 59s
Langzeitbelichtung bis 99h 59min 59s
Intervall: 0s - 99h 59min 59s im Sekundentakt

Any idea on where to get the Delamax or Phottix in Canada? I can only find german sites although it says it's made in HK

399 exposure limit ?!

399 exposure limit ?!

I notice the JJC has 399 exposure limit, does the Delamax have the same limit?

In my experience, at say 2 second interval, I think that makes only 13 minutes of exposures, played back at 30fps would be 13 seconds. I am used to leaving the camera for at least an hour, which would meen 1800 stills at 2 second interval.

I don't wnat to buy a timer with a 399 frame limit, crazy.

Delamax timer (Phottix timer is the same!) has 99 (!) frames limit - but how upshot said,
if you set interval timer to 2 sec and frames to 0 then it makes all two seconds a picture till you end the process.

intervals: 0s - 99h 59min 59s !!!

If you set interval to 65 sec and frames to 10, then it makes 10 pictures, all 65 sec one.

If you set interval to 24h and frames to 7, it makes each day 1 picture - one week long :-))))

JJC timer 1-399 frames or endless (--) :

In den Modi Selbstauslöser, Langzeitbelichtung und Intervall können
Sie Zeiten zwischen 1s und 99h 59min 59s angeben, bei der Reihenaufnahme
eine Anzahl von 1-399 oder unendlich (--)

Delamax € 49 with one cable, for other cameras you only have to buy a suited cable/connector
Phottix € 79 without cable! You also have to buy a cable/connector.
JJC € 59 with fixed cable, you need for each camera the whole thing.
Functions for all three are ~ the same.

Thanks for all the response to my initial post. Just worked with some serious timelapse/ motion control guys last week and they turned me on to Harbortronics. Really rugged, small custom stuff. Only downside for me is there's no visual interface/ readout, so I may stick with my NXT stuff, or try to integrate. I may still try one of these Ebay Bangkok deals...

Hi Guys very useful thread, do you know if any of the abovementioned intervalometer, or for example thr delamax, will work with the Ricoh gx200 given the camera connections?
thank you

they heve them on amazon.de.

i'm not sure which connector is needed though. from the above picture looks like the canon one will do. JJc is sold out as is Phottix in UK.
