GH2 Time Lapse

Hi,

I've been googling for TL tutorials on the WWW but I can't seem to find one that's truly helpful so here's my post:

What's the best way to shoot TL with GH2/GH13?

Many believe it's best to shoot manually but I assume Auto is better to deal with natural light changes right?
Also believe in shooting with M WB to achieve natural Kelvin temp in light conditions as magic hour TL

So... Every bit of information and ideas will be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I usually shoot them full manual. But now with sunsets/sunrises I use 'A' mode. In post I cut it in the middle and crossfade my color correction.

I've read somewhere that's possible to do TL with a slow shutter speed. I was looking for some info about that technique as well other technical details to achieve perfect TL.

Just did a sky time lapse with the GH2. First did high res jpg (1 exposure every 5 sec) and ran out of space after about 2 hours (8GB Card). Then did med res jpg - high compression and battery ran out at about 3 hours. Imported jpg into Adobe LR, cropped added a bit of punch. Exported all to 1280x720 files. Import sequence into quicktime pro, then saved out as mov file. You could export as something else, but I'm not sure about ProRes HQ.

Search this forum; time lapse has been discussed before and a video way for the GH13 is possible. Not sure for the GH2.

i tested out the video mode of timelapse on my gh2. i originally wanted to use 1/2 shutter speed, but because i knew i'd be moving the camera [from the car] i chose to up the shutter speed a bit to 1/8. all other settings can be read in the description of the video here:

You should get a ticket driving that fast :-) Thanks for sharing... Al

Thanks for all your inputs. I'll be trying Timelapser soon. Do you think that Timelapser overall results are better than the ones achieved trough more traditional techniques?

Wow Timelapser is amazing, just stunning. wish it was 24p instead of 25 and how do I disable looping? Feeling very greedy here this guy has done so much.

Well, you won't be able to shoot long form timelapses of several hours or more, unless you shoot image sequences using an intervalometer. Actually even then, that's a challenge, as you have to keep a power supply to the camera.
Also if you shoot RAW sequences, you can avoid things like banding in skies, which can arise from compressed video.
Shooting in video mode is convenient and much quicker in post though.
