Thinking of switching my FS700/Odyssey7q combo for a FS5/Odyssey7Q combo. Thoughts?

Hey guys,

I have owned a FS700 since it came out almost 5 years ago now. I purchased a Odyssey7q when that came out to get a better image out of my FS700. I mainly shoot 4k-4kproresHQ at 25fps, 50fps and bursts of 100fps and also the same but in 4k2HD mode. Are there any advantages of switching my FS700 for a FS5 and keeping my Odyssey7q? Will the image be better? I think the setup will certainly be lighter but are there any other benefits?

Cheers

Paul

As far as I've heard/seen (without having tried it myself), using the 7Q the image will be almost identical.
Being able to shoot 10bit HD stripped down would be amazing though.

For me the FS5 would offer mainly ergonomical improvements... mostly a moveable display and having access to Push Auto Focus on the hand grip. The delay/latency of the FS700 makes it almost unusable to me with an external monitor and it's way too expensive for me to be able to configure a workable shoulder mount set-up...
I guess the electronic ND Filter is another biggie if you need them, but inshoot almost exclusively where there's a lack of light so to me that's a minor point.

If money were not an issue I'd switch in a heartbeat. But since it is, the benefits are not quite enough to warrant the cost. I'd wait until next generation.

Absolutely, it's a benefit analysis; is the smaller form, decent quality of internal 4k if you don't need ProRes/RAW and variable ND worth the money for your work?

Beyond that, the absolute picture quality of the FS5 will not be significantly better.

Anytime I get worried about the viability of the FS700 + Odyssey I just have to check on what these folks in Kazakhstan keep pumping out... they really are using every aspect of the camera to it's maximum.

I like the FS700 and Odyssey. The only part I don't like is the SDI cable. The SDI cable is so sensitive, sometimes
if you touch it, the O7Q somehow lost sync with the camera. So I throw the SDI cable away after about 10-15 use. Also
wish the 4K/prores is not grainy compare to the internal recording.

Thanks for the replies and links guys. Mitch is there any different recording modes on the FS5 with Odyssey7q compared to the FS700? Or any less? Shorter burt modes or anything like that? Also is the Prores recording in 12bit with the FS5 instead of 10 bit with the FS700?
