At the moment I own 5D MKII, 16-35/2.8 II, 50/1.4 and 85/1.8.
Earlier this week I was thinking about buying 24-105/4 IS for video use with my 5D vs buying 60D + IS zoom to go with my 5D. Now I'm thinking about selling my 5D and at least the 16-35/2.8 II and buying 60D and some new lenses.
I use the camera for both video and stills, maybe 60/40. These are the two main reasons for wanting the 60D:
1. Flip screen.
Sometimes it's really annoying to shoot video without the flip screen. I you have to hold the camera around your navel level and shoot handheld, even framing is pain in the ass because you have to be in a very unpleasent body position to see the screen. With flip screen I could just stand straight and moving would be way easier. Low angles are another pain, but what is the hardest without flip screen is sideways movements + the mid low angle (navel level). You pretty much just have to get lucky to get it good.
2. 720p/60p
Not as big bonus as the first one, but still great when wanting slow motion.
And the reason why I'm considering selling the 5D is that if shooting both video and stills with same sensor size, I would learn to "see" the focal lenghts in my mind easier. If I use 5D for all the stills and some video and 60D for most video, I would have to use always different lens to get the same FOV on both cameras and it feels a bit complicated way of working vs if shooting video and stills using same sensor.
I know 5D has superior image quality for stills, but I don't use my 5D for large prints and I haven't yet read how much there's quality differences in video between these two. I would lose a bit from the shallow DOF if going with 60D, but I think that's ok for video, a bit downer for stills. Not the end of the world though.
I haven't really counted how much I would get from 5D and the 16-35/2.8 II and how much I would have to pay for the 60D plus lenses, but I'm going to count that in a moment.
Basicly the 60D set would include:
Tokina 11-16/2.8
Canon 17-55/2.8 IS
Sigma 30/1.4
Canon 50/1.4
Canon 85/1.8
And if staying with 5D my set would look like (after getting the IS lens for handheld stuff):
16-35/2.8 II
Canon 24-105/4 IS
Canon 50/1.4
Canon 85/1.8
