Think football is important?

But Barry, you're overlooking the fundamental truth about the football fan[atic]...

Mear death does not end their loyalty to the game.

Football is life and death.
Ahah! Hence why it is not such a big deal to riot and kill at a soccer game... because soccer transcends life and death. Got it.

Y'know, it's amazing also because EVERY child is constitutionally required to be enrolled in soccer in this country. It's not possible for an 8-year-old to exist without having to play in a soccer league. But we'd rather watch a karaoke contest in prime time on television, than sit through a soccer match...

:/

Hmm. Apparently the ref who revoked the goal either can't or won't say what exactly the foul was which prompted it.

of course he isn't going to say what his foul was. who would admit to taking a cash bribe to ensure one team doesn't win?

Either way, the important thing is sitting on our duffs watching someone else make the effort.

Touche!

Well, I'll tell you what -- if you're trying to engage more Americans in the game, a controversy like that isn't going to help much.

USA -1 ALG-0 scored in the final minutes ... maybe now you understand what I was talking about.
You wait 90 minutes then BOOM everyone in the bar goes crazy. Congrats you Americans

The Americans proved to the world they had the heart and passion. But heart and passion alone is not enough to earn a team a place amongst the best in the world. This match was a test to see if we had the quality to earn that spot, because in the end even with blatant poor calls by the referee that deny us game winning goals, it is the team that has to put themselves through the match. And that is exactly what we did with this result. GO USA!

First, I'll say that I couldn't care less about any sport, unless I'm playing it...

Football never gets me interested, even when my home team (Saints) won the Superbowl I was more dissapointed by the fact that a little game got so many people so excited. The Superbowl occured around the same time horrible, horrible Mayor Ray Nagin was ousted by Mitch Landrieu in a landslide election. Why is it that a REAL event that will have REAL impact on our city was hardly talked about while the Superbowl, a game, is STILL being talked about in the paper (this morning was part 4 of coach Payton's play-by-play run-through)?

I have nothing against sports. As I said, I have always loved playing sports. But THAT is the kind of attitude that bothers me.

The World Cup is more entertaining to me than the NFL, or NBA for that matter, simply because there are whole countries involved and not just cities.

Any sport in which I can chant "USA! USA! USA!" is a winner in my book.

That said, I don't watch the entire matches...

Unbelievable match! So glad you made it! :)

Bloody Germany let us down Simon. They were meant to crush Ghana.

I used to watch a little NFL, but compared to Aussie rules its a bit sloooooow and was actually following one team that became another and moved to another state and then I was just confused. Oh wait they did that with aussie rules teams as well.... ok

Not sure many will get aussie rules (unless youre living in Ireland), but if you take the time to know the rules then you can see the skill.

I like to support the Aussies in world cup but to be honest Im not a real follower of football. Now the Rugby world cup isnt too far away and thats when Ill watch every minute of every game australia plays in and many of the other games.

Yeah, the team played really weak the last two games. Not sure what's up with that. I think this years team is not that strong, but you never know. We'll see next game against England. That probably won't be that easy.
