(meaning, you're comparing the entire world cup tournament against one game)
 
I grew up calling the game football then when I moved to the states when I was in my twenties it was strange to have everyone around me calling it soccer.
I've come to accept it now but seeing that graph had me confused for a sec.

I read somewhere that football (what I call football anyway) is not a matter of life and death ...
its actually way more important than that.
 
No, haven't worshipped the orb. Which means, I guess, that out of those 29.61 billion viewers, people had to watch it slightly more than 5 times each, to pick up the average from me not doing my part... :D
 
What's the point of this? To show that a sport played primarily in 2-3 countries has fewer total viewers than a sport played worldwide? No way.

Seems like needless agitation to me.
 
People always ask the question why soccer (or football as the rest of the world calls it), isn't popular in the US but I think the question is really why isn't Baseball, Football or Basketball as popular in the rest of the world? In most countries the strongest and sometimes only national sports league is soccer. For whatever reason we developed very strong national leagues in Baseball, Football and Basketball, so soccer has a lot of competition to contend with that it doesn't face in other nations...and it blows.
 
I tried watching a little soccer during the last Olympics. Man, that was painful.

Something that continually bugged me was you never knew how much time was left. The clock would run out but there would still be time left. What's that all about?

that way people stay longer and consume and consume and consume beer!
 
In one way I find soccer and football interchangeable: like a lot of sports they're more fun to play, even badly, than sit and watch.

YMMV.

Like Blaine, I have tried to watch it. Painful. Pick the damn ball up and throw it or shoot it. It'd be better of you could tackle people or check them.

Oh wait, that's why we have the other sports. : p

I always say Soccer is for the kids who don't or parents don't play real sports. Ha ha.
