The Walking Dead - Frank Darabont's Zombie Show on AMC!

The first thing I thought was "She just forgot to give him his hand grenade back?" But overall I liked the episode and the season quite a bit. Too bad season 2 apparently won't start until next October. I guess I'll just read the comics until then.

The good thing is that the show is diverging pretty radically from the comic book's storyline. So you should feel that if you read the comic, you won't be spoiling many surprises in the show come season 2.

What was the purpose of leaving the note on the vehicle for Morgan and his son that they were going to the CDC for help if they were just going to blow up the CDC later in the episode. I though Merle was going to find it first, go looking for them, and cause more drama.

Maybe it'll come into play next year.

Surely they did not know the CDC was gonna bust. I think we will see more of the characters in season 2. And hopefully the CG will get better (Bigger budget?)

I love this show.

I'm still going to watch Season 2, but I hope the writing strengthens. Way better than 80% of TV, but this has such a high potential!!

Yeah, I didn't mean from the characters perspective, but the writers perspective. I hope it turns into something next season. I really love this show.

The writing definitely needs work. The show has a lot of potential but I think they are really skimping in parts. The whispering part seemed silly but what the hell, I can wait almost a year for that. Or maybe not.

The grenade from nowhere was just stupid.

The doctor pissed me off. He basically trapped these people and only gave them minutes at a chance for freedom. What a psycho! I'm supposed to feel sorry for him losing his wife? No way.

Love the lead though. He's the reason I watched it all the way through.

Will I watch the second season next October? Not sure yet. That's a long ways away and I don't know if I got to know the characters enough to care what happens to them. It was a short season.

Sounds like a rant but it's not. I just think it could have been so much better.
Still enjoyed it enough to tune in.

CDC blowing up felt right in that it closes off a source of hope and an escape. The writing could be better, but I will definitely tune in next year. There is nothing else on tv that fills this niche and it does it fairly decently.

+1 on the bad CG explosion. Shockingly low-budget looking.

Love the lead character and jeff demunn (dale)

I think the writing is ok. hoping it gets better next season. I did enjoy the fact they all got drunk, which seemed
quite realistic. The crazy doctor annoyed me as did the whole escape sequence.

Darabont fired all of the writers on the show.

MAH I guess he got the memo.

This is not directed at you Richard but more at the integrity of the article.
Episode 4 was written by Robert Kirkman, the original writer of the comic series
and who is a exec producer. The article title "... fires all writers" seems sensationalistic
and misleading. On a more positive note - I hope Robert takes over the bulk of writing for the show,
his work in the comic is astounding.

Despite shamelessly ripping off 28 Days Later's guy wakes up in a hospital set up, this trailer looks pretty damn good. A long form Zombie series could be interesting--

I just remembered this

The narrative begins with Bill Masen in hospital, his eyes bandaged after having been splashed with droplets of triffid venom in a lab accident. During his convalescence he is told of the unexpected and beautiful green meteor shower that the entire world is watching. He awakes the next morning to a silent hospital and learns that the light from the unusual display has rendered any who watched it completely blind. (It is later suggested, though never confirmed, that the 'meteor shower' may have been an orbiting government weapons' system that was triggered accidentally.)
After unbandaging his eyes, he wanders through an anarchic London full of almost entirely sightless inhabitants, and witnesses civilization collapsing around him

28 days ripped off John Wyndham, 1952

everything's a remix

There's def. room for improvement. I kept laughing to myself every other episode at the bad writing and fakey circumstances.

With all of the flaws it's refreshing to have Zombie goodness on TV. It helps that Greg Nicotero is involved.

It will do until World War Z comes out (hopefully). Max Brooks should pick up where George Romero left off long ago.

Well the season premiere came out swinging! Everything about the show seems ever so slightly sharper, from the performances to the cinematography to the directing. And I didn't know The Mummy was such a great writer...LOL.

Don't get me wrong (as I proceed to dump on this show), I was highly entertained last night, but I have to disagree. Actually I can't put my finger on it, but I felt like the show dragged along at the pace of a zombie trudging down a Georgia highway. At first it was moving well, but then the commercial breaks started coming at a rapid clip. And not a whole lot seemed to be happening. It could have been tightened up to 60 minutes, IMO.

Two instances of main characters talking to Jesus in the church. Zzzzzzzzzzz. I just heard an interview on Sirius where one of the show creators said something like, "We're tricking you into watching a soap opera with the use of zombies." I think I see what he's talking about.

There were some instances where the cinematography was sub-par. Like there was a this one scene I guess taking place around sunset near the Winnebago. It looked like they just cranked down the brightness levels on shots in broad daylight. It really looked piss-poor. Overall, everything looks very grainy on my set, but I guess everything is just subject to taste. And back to the beginning, the convoy leaving Atlanta looked ridiculously fake.

But against everything I've said, I will be glued to this show this season. God bless AMC for picking up with Walking Dead right as Breaking Bad came to an end. That Hell on Wheels show looks like it might be good as well.
