The Walking Dead - Frank Darabont's Zombie Show on AMC!

"No. I have a new rule. If it has zombies or vampires, I don't care how good it is. I don't watch."

I assumed he was kidding.

mark you will end up missing a lot great cinema in the next few decades if you adhere to this rule.

Anyone else think the opening scene(s) were an homage/ripoff of Mad Max? Low angles, wide angles, POV shots out the windscreen, convict's cars flippin'! I loved it!

Okay I tried it.

Honestly I was bored. I was almost an hour into the first episode and there was not one piece of information I didn't already know from the trailer. That feels like a pretty big waste of an episode to me. I think the introduction to a bombed out zombie world is unnecessary. Why waste story time on him discovering that everyone is gone? Especially given that they didn't give us anything new. Abandoned chopper: check. Lots of dead people: check. Deserted city: check.

Also in general, I think the characters lack the specificity you find in other AMC shows. Mad Men. Breaking Bad. Those are very very specifically drawn characters. These feel like they came out of some screenwriting book. Seems like it's written a little more like a movie with flatter, more broadly drawn characters, than one of the current good TV shows. Those are written more like novels. In movies, character shorthand is sometimes necessary, due to lack of time. But the BSG mini series came out of the gate with actual, real, flesh and blood people. I think maybe the creator of this show doesn't get the difference?

Will watch the second one, just to prove how open-minded I am now. My marriage is mellowing me out already. :)

I agree; the characters aren't particularly intriguing. Mad Men and Breaking Bad are tough competition.

I'm going to keep watching though, because all my friends who have read the comic and are anticipating the next episodes say it will get much better.

Watched half of the first episode (got bored) and then watched the whole second one last night.

Boring, overacted, and a waste of an hour is what I put down on my checklist.

Oh well, there is always Mad Men.

+1. Gave it a shot. Dialogue, character development, themes, all seemed contrived.
No offense intended.

Honestly if end of the world survival scenarios are not your cup of tea, and you don't like Zombies then yes this is not for you. But if you like the survival aspect, and if they stay anywhere near the comic I really think people should give it a chance. Or do what I do with shows I'm not sure about, wait until the first season is done and then get every episode and start watching them, no commercials, no end of episode cliffhangers just one long movie.

Like I said not for everyone, but if you feel you should like it try it out. honestly have you ever had the conversation what would you do in a zombie apocalypse just about everything I have ever come up with or thought of is addressed in this comic, it is quite possibly the most in depth look I have ever seen in a post apocalyptic world. honestly I don't care about vampires ware wolves I want to see a prolonged zombie apocalypse I always want more from the movies, but finally this comic (and hopefully the show) delivers.

Actually if you really don't like the show read the comic, quite possibly one of my favorites. The comic is much more, the Road, than it is, book of eli, I'm just not sure where the show is going, gritty reality or new age soap opera, I'm hoping the former.
