The Vintage Lens Thread

I have recently received a russian Mir 24 n 35 f2.0 lens to use on the t2i but apparently it is the only lens that doesn't work well with my M42 to EOS (Focus confirm) adapter. Because of the slightly protruding aperture lever on the back, the aperture ring doesn't close the iris when the lens is on the adapter and -worst- the lens doesn't focus to infinity. When the focus ring is on the infinity mark the lens focuses at about 1.5 metres. It appears that the lens should be screwed further on the adapter, hence closer to the sensor, to get the focus right, however it cannot go further.
This adapter works flawlesly (apart from some exposure flickering, but that's another story) with all my other M42 lenses.
Anyone can suggest a good adapter that would work with this lens?
Thank you in advance.

I have the same lens, I just remove the aperture pin (very easy once you remove the mount) and I usually use a m42->EOS adapter without the rear flange that depresses the stopdown pin.

Thank you very much. Just did it and it works fine. Apparently no need for a particular m42 to eos adapter. I have two of them now and it works with both. Great!

Ant documentary?

For about $35 you can get an Industar 50mm f/3.5 (about $25) and a set of macro tubes ($10). i've also read that all Macro-Nikkors are excellent.

LOL...wsup with the profile pic Jordan LOL....

actually i'll be doing a personal comedy project that has alot closeups of bottles.

thanks for the response...i will look into it.

ok i'm not 2 familiar with macro lenses and macro tubes. but since u linked me on that 50...could i just get a macro tube for the 50mm (supertak) i already have? if so...which one?

I have got a 2x-3x variable focal length adapter which consists basically in 3 parts (2 extension tubes and one part with a glass element) that can be mounted together. If you use only the extension tubes of this set, it appears that you can get closer to your subject and simulate macro shots (this should work with whatever extension tubes in m42 mount). I may try the extension tubes with the Pentacon 50 1.8 that focuses closer than the Takumar. The Industar or the Helios 58 may also be good solutions.
However, I think that a dedicated macro lens that I have (Kiron Lester Dine) gets even closer (1:1).

Kiron has manufactured some of the Vivitar Series 1 lenses (serial number starting by 22..) which are considered to be the best Vivitars ever. There are some "legendary" Kiron lenses like, for instance, the Lester A. Dine 105mm f 2.8 1:1 Macro. I think Kiron lenses are good indeed. The only problem they have is that they usually suffer from oily aperture blades which at some point may lead to stuck diaphragm. But this can be readily cleaned.

Anyone know anything about the Kiron (I believe it's Vivitar Series 1) 35mm-135mm lens? I *think* it's 3.5-4.5

could find very little reliable info on the web/sample footage.

It is a decent one touch zoom lens. If you can get it very cheap maybe it is worth trying. However, for a similar focal range the Canon FD 35-105 f 3.5 (two touch zoom, with constant aperture, in the 70 Eur price range) is a much better option.

you think it's worth it for $35 USD?

If you don't have to pay another $20 for shipping and if you are ok with one touch zooming and variable aperture through the zoom range and f=3.5-4.5, you could give it a try. The Canon I am suggesting above can be found at about 3 times that price, so it is a more expensive option.

Anyone try the vivitar 135mm 2.8? I just bought one for 15 dollars on ebay - shipping included. Hopefully I made a good buy. It has a nikon f mount so I'll need an adapter for my t2i.

So... I just caught the bug of vintage lenses. It's official now.

I just got
Konika 50mm F/1.8
Konica 28mm F/3.5
Pentax 80-200 F/4.5
Pentax 50mm F/2.0
Vivitar 70-210 macro F/3.5
2X vivitar skylight (1a) filters
1X Hoya circular polarizer filter
and a 2X converter.
All for super cheap. I'm officially hooked. I have two pentax 50mm F/2.0 lenses, and they both look fairly different, as one was kept in good condition, one wasn't. I am doing some testing of all of the lenses this week, so I should be able to get a video up soon-ish
