Seriously no comments? is it that bad? When i posted the trailer and stills I got really positive feedback...and now nothing when it's finished? C'mon guys......
It's early Sunday morning ... people are just getting up ....
I watched it for a few minutes until about the first 4 lines of dialog .... maybe I'll try again later ....
I got bored with the repetitive camera movements in what I did watch. I think you have great potential.
So you got to the beginning of the torture scene? You should watch more i think you would enjoy. The repetitive camera movements i guess you mean the 1st person stuff when he is tied to the chair.
I had a similar experience to Vic. Started watching it and thought the production value was high. But even though I like a slow pace, it was a little too slow for me. So I never got around to finishing it. But I'll try to pick up where I left off and watch the rest. I will say that if the pace is similar throughout, you could easily edit it down to a more view friendly 20 minutes.
I watched it. First response is it's too long and repetitive. You've got a nice score. You could probably cut it down to 10 minutes probably less. You don't need the bar scene. The climax was very Book of Eli so I liked that a lot but it was short lived.
You created this great world with interesting characters but the execution of the main character's journey didn't do it for me.
Thanks for the comments guys and I actually just built the dolly. I was just trying to do a slice of life type thing with this one guy over a 24 hour period.
You can easily lose half of this and end up with a more powerful film. Way too much repetition, and too many lingering 'pretty shots' that do nothing for the story.
This edit is slooooooow. I think you need to hand it off to an third party with no attachment to the production or actors to edit it.
Because so much of this is sin-dialogue, when we do hear it, it seems oddly out of place - that and the dialogue is dull.
The bartender isn't so bright - he shoves a shotgun in some freak's face, then sets the shotgun where said freak can get it?
twenty minutes into it, I had no idea what was going on, or what the story was about.
Didn't care for all the snotty goo shots. A few maybe, but this was just gross, and for no real reason.
Why are all post-apocalypse films so depressing?
On a good note ...
Some really beautiful shots, some nice characters (love the woman playing the thumb guitar), a great score and top notch locations. The MC has a great presence on film.
What's missing is an edit that makes it all work. The elements are there, just need to get to the essence.
I re-edited the film and changed the story and the pacing around this morning to a clean 15 minutes and took out the bar scene. It is a different movie, but I feel it loses a lot of the impact and character the original had. It has some new moments that shine in the way I paced scenes differently, but the sadness you feel for the world and characters is gone because it goes by so fast. I will upload tomorrow for those who want to take a peak. On a different thread I had a comment say "it was slow, yet mean and i felt as though i was sweating as the characters" That is exactly how i wanted people to feel while watching this. Westerns are typically very slow films that build so it's what i was trying to accomplish with this. I really do appreciate the critism and i'm not saying you guys are wrong and i guess by todays standards it is a very slow film and i am also learning as this is my second feature, but some like it slow some like it fast. I'm giving you both. also the 3rd party editor comment made a very good point. I have personal relationships with people in the movie and I need to learn when to stop using every shot that CAN be used even though it doesn't need to be. When you know someone and you are editing them into the film you want to give them screen time( like the bartender was super psyched to be in the movie and wanted to see himself" even though the entire scene was just filler lol. Anyway I'm talking my ass off. Thanks guys
I can't enter the short into the festival...it's far too long and I've already showed it to hundreds. And there was no need for permits for the weapons lol. an old model pistol that doesn't even work and a machete from my dads garage.
Just sony vegas color correction. I used to swear by magic bullet, but i find it easier to just make your own settings with color wheels and save them as presets also you don't have to deal with those stupid render times. I have no idea why that program uses so much GPU and only supports certain video cards...just stupid. i have a quad core system with 2 gig VRAM and 8 gigs of DDR3 and it would take over 24 hours to render a 90 minute clip.
