the power of "5d to rgb" and the "DSLR anti moire Filter" !!!

Hey,
just wanted to show you a quick comparison
of a raw 7d shot with a lot of artifacts and the same shot after some fcp tweaking.
i used "5d to rgb" to transcode the footage to prores
then applied the Marvels DSLR anti moire Filter, some cc, a little sharpening,
and some grain. I think the results are great, so much more detail!

here is the raw h264 100% grab:

and the converted prores version, at 100%:

Just out of curiosity is there any advantage to 5d to RGB over mpeg streamclip, or is it really just a preference thing?

streamclip is a lot faster, thats why i use it for most of my projects...you can compare the streamclip output quality to the native h264 files.
5d to rgb definetly outputs higher quality video then streamclip. But it takes a lot longer...

Really cleaned up the rug and saved a shot in serious trouble. Have any tests on brick walls, chain link fences, or tweed jackets.

I work on a PC with Adobe Premiere and AE. Can the Marvels DSLR anti moire Filter be downloaded?

Promising post, thanks.

If you apply the 5DtoRGB, do you still need to 'Prores' it afterwards for smooth editing in FCP?

hmm

hmm

No offense, but the first thing I notice is the added noise on the back, brown wall. If you look just to the right and below the light, it looks like you added too much grain.

He probably shot at an high iso, regardless I don't like this screen grab at all. One thing I also noticed about using 5d to rgb is that it actually changed the look of my files and made them brighter, for this reason alone I continue to use streamclip as it maintains the same look as the original.

With your method can you get the same result removing the color moire from the rug at the bottom of the shot?

5DtoRGB definitely yields a cleaner image, less jaggies and I find it eminently more usuable for grading. It also alleviates the canned in sharpening somewhat of the Canon outputs. It is definitely brighter, but all the info is there if you want to make a general gamma correction in post.

I am less of a fan of most of the "anti-moire' filters though, basically chroma blurring and desaturation going on. Won't work with heavy urban patterns, but better than nothing.

Probably not, I would have shot that scene different. The colors on that screen grab look really bland and dead to me, I never shoot like that.

thanks for bringing 5d to rgb to my attention! it can be good for some projects, but for most of my video journalist work i'll continue using mpegstreamclip!
The shot really looks much cleaner after being processed with the two plugins!

@life4eva: whenever i read something from you on the forums you criticize other people or you brag about how good you are! makes me smile :)

As long as I can help you out. Now rule#1 in life is to learn not to lie. I never mentioned or said how good I was or how bad anyone is. You need to learn some basic reading comprehension.
