To those who defend me on this thread, thanks and I mean that. To those who offer nothing constructive just hatred, well I'm afraid that is part of the parcel of putting yourself out there. Everyone gets it be it Philip Bloom, Vincent Laforet, even goddamn Spielberg gets hate. Having an opinion is enough. Having an opinion on the internet is even more provocative, and people lack the social barrier to being personal and insulting online. You will get that. It is unavoidable. What surprises me is the sheer persistence of some people. What is the agenda?
About rumours - they're a bit of fun but 50% of the time they're genuine leaks. It is difficult to keep things under wraps when so many people are involved, to develop a product involving thousands of people and keep it secret in the age of the internet for 2 years solid, is hard. Rumours exist for that reason. How many times has 43rumors been first to the new camera announcements whilst everyone else is under NDA? I only post info that comes from a good source. I've written for DPReview, UK printed press (Sound on Sound) and both Gizmodo and Engadget have picked up on my stuff so I don't need any additional hits from forums. If I wanted that I'd post a complete lie on the site and watch the hit counter go 10% for 1 day, fall back to normal for the rest of the year. Doesn't seem like a good move to me, the risks outweigh the gains.
I'm a filmmaker and I wanted a platform to put my work out on. If people are interested in the site, that's great and a lot are. But if just one person sees my work and likes it that is even better. Why would I want to jeopardise both aspects of my life to post something completely made up, purely to chase the attention of people who aren't interested in my work as a cinematographer, only the rumour mill?
Yes I can be better at labelling my opinion as an opinion, but when I so strongly believe in something, it comes across as me talking factually, logically, honestly. That is an aspect of my personality. I hate fluffy statements and constant disclaimers. Take the whole blog as my personal opinion, my view on the world, the information I absorb from others, the filmmaker just trying to shoot.
Shooting and sharing... It all comes down to that.
If any of the haters can give me a reason why that is wrong, I'd love to hear it.
