The Panasonic G1HD | GH-1 Video Mode : A Real Video Mode

Tonight. But not raw. It'll be on Vimeo and a downloadable H.264. I'll also see where I can throw up a higher res, better compressed 720 for straight download.

It's all random stuff, but after getting the adapters I really just wanted to show the powerhouse that this thing is.

Raw, raw, raw, raw, raw, raw, raw, raw, raw! Unfukwitable RAW!

In the meantime, looking forward to the downloadable H.264.

What will you do for a shot like that? Outright avoid shooting foliage etc just because the camera can't handle it at 1080/24P?

There is plenty of foliage footage at 1080 already making the rounds that look pretty good. With all due respect it is good to form an opinion based on using the camera but spreading your own findings as conclusive facts thats another matter, especially not seeing your own personal footage to support the claims. We cannot discard any possibility that the 1080 mode is totally unusuable yet. Thats just not right. And I personally won't take it as a fact until I check it out with my own camera. I was chastized for my personal opinion of that other camera so I am going to take anybody elses opinion of this camera with the same attitude. I hope we can see footage from you that tops everything thats out there so far, especially trying to make it its best under what the camera can do. We are being told how bad certain things might look, we would like to see some possible remedies for that from the experts.

Actually John, Kholi has said several times that these are his OPINIONS and not fact.

Looking forward to the footage tonight.

Indeed. I only called it opinion. Sonic isn't to blame for anything in the 1080. I've experienced exactly what he has. On the flip side, if you only want shots with out of focus backgrounds you may really be doing the 1080/24 a favor.

And, again, I'm pretty certain that there'll be several people more than ecstatic about the 1080/24 coming from this camera.

I just asked how you would deal with a scenario like that, where the compression is obvious failing on a static shot.

Is it showing more in wide angle shots of foliage than higher focal lengths with a more blured background? BTW: We don't have much foliage in NYC. Unless you go to a few parks. LOL.

Yeah. In fact, most of the issues I have with the camera are at wide angles. When you hit about 35mm or 50mm it begins to disperse.

I'm always around 20 - 35mm.

This stuff doesn't really happen in 720, either. Just the 1080/24. But I did get some 1080/24 stuff to mix into the randomness that I'm going to post, so you'll be able to see some of the differences. Or, maybe you won't at all and that's awesome news for all of us.

Scrutinizing the 1080 24p footage its the panning that bothers me and these are not whip pans, looking at 00012, after scrutinizing the footage frame by frame the codec falls apart for about 3 frames and the rest of the pan is clean motion blur. I'm wondering why the rest of the pan isn't falling apart. This is both on compressor and JES.

MY Hf10 and HF11 was whipped crazy and never showed this breakdown even the 17Mbs hf10.

Thats what I figured. So no wides of foliage!

Just show your stuff. The more we see the merrier. Until next month.

That's what I was asking. I'm not campaigning "Don't shoot 1080/24", I'm just trying to figure out if avoiding high frequency detail is a plausible idea.

That means don't shoot in a park, a lot of grass, etc and so on and so forth.

For wides, though, again it's a good thing 720/60P exists! So this camera CAN cover the gamut.

Hello everyone, mr. hicks I would like to know how the footage from GH1 gets along with the hvx200a/hpx170, is there any settings to match the color before going to post-pro? thanks in advance

Yoi

It looks a lot smoother than the HPX170, little smoother than the 200A (yeah, I still see a difference) but they should play fairly well together. Well, maybe.

I haven't really tested it out. Poor HPX170 hasn't gotten any play in a while.

I'm sorry but there is absolutely no reason for the footage to fall apart like it does. It's as if it were crippled on purpose. And mico is right....I see it fall apart for a few frames during the pan and then it is clean. What is that? I agree also that it is in mostly wide open footage. I've seen samples on YouTube that shows closer shots with a blurred background and decent (not too crazy) movement that shows no breakdown in the codec. This is one of them. I'm really satisfied with those building shots that Sonic did. But when I see green in the open...trouble....

On a side note...what type of skill does one need to hack into the firmware. If there's a cam to hack....it's most definitely this one. I'm not too sure on Panasonic fixing this anomoly in firmware...but then...stranger things have happened.

I just want to say...17Mbps aVCHD is plenty enough to make a beautiful picture. It's not the issue of this camera. 17Mbps is supposed to be on par with HDV@25Mbps. Look at the HF10 etc. The Panasonic Rep. in the early videos gave us a clue that this was doctored differently than the average camcorder when he said "camcorders can more intelligently read the codec" <<<<I'm paraphrasing here.

What do you think the chances are for Panasonic to fix these things with a firmware update? Is it even possible?

shallow dof footage

shallow dof footage

I think now we need to see shallow dof footage, a people face against a blur backgorund, in the streets with tress and buildings behind...

some tips for shallow dof footage (if somebody can do and upload the mts raw files)

use lens in 35mm / 50mm / 70mm and 100mm
use f4 (diafragm open)
use any shutter speed
use iso 100

shot a people face and also the chest and face in streets with tress , buildings and cars behind (to see the city blurred in the background)

if you can do this will be very usefull

thanks
