The Panasonic G1HD | GH-1 Video Mode : A Real Video Mode

Do we know yet if the audio comes out of the audio out port live like the composite video?

If so, a headphone could be adapted to that..

whoa whoa whoa ... did we determine that you can in fact monitor video live out of the composite out while recording? Did I miss that in this every growing virus of a thread?

No Live Video out while recording unless someone else discovered it?

AVCHD issue -- One of our desktops at the office has this SAME issue. Everything's updated, but still won't bring in AVCHD, but the other computers are great. Can't figure it out.

There will not be a DSLR with real audio controls, XLRs, meters, level controls and phantom for a long time, if ever. Photo camera engineers know nothing about audio, less than video camera engineers and they know nothing about audio.

Double system sound is the way to go if you care about your audio quality. The cheapie Zoom H4N has sound quality that blows the RED One and the HPX3700 out of the water. And it is only a $349.00 recorder. Audio quality has not been and I doubt if it ever will be a priority for any camera.

make that $239

($269 price drops to $239 when you add it to your cart)

Man are you serious? I just paid 312 for my H4N,

LAME.

EDIT: Nevermind, the one Jack Linked is the original H4.

H4N is still about 350.00

Yes, My H4N is htting here tomorrow from B&H. Zoom made major upgrades from the H4 to the H4N that make it worth the extra $110.00 easily.

I don't get it because I can still bring Barry's file into log and transfer. This camera is gonna work great for me if I can't edit the footage!

The zoom H4 is the $239. The Zoom H4N is around $350 depending. The changed layout and menu system alone is worth the extra money. The H4 works great but it is the worst layout of both physical buttons and menu systems of anything I've ever used.

Dang. I was super psyched about $239, a bit more hesitant for $350. Probably gonna pull the trigger though. Just looking through reviews and samples on Google and talking myself into it.

Don't feel bad about the $350, I had to use a $5k hvx camera tonight just to capture audio from a Red shoot.

Don't ask but Red sucks for audio. Sweeeet images!

I just watched Sam´s footage: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=170685. First of all thanks for his effort. But it confirms that the 1080/24p is pretty unusable as soon as movement comes into play (either people, cars... or when the cam pans). This is really only a 720/60(50) camera.

Pana could have done it without FHD. But obviously with 1080/24p the sales gonna run better.

According to Watch Impress Review the Motion jPeg is around 30Mbps.

Edit: And looking at their sample videos I think 60p is just incredible. In their camea tilts you see absolutely no degredation in image quality. Matter of fact...between the 1920x1080 and the 720/60p...I can't tell the difference in resolution. What Imean is...it's just as sharp. I think someone needs to do a resolution test. But blown back up to 1920 I think the 720p is a perfect resolution to shoot in with theis camera. You can see where the 1080/24p breaks up in their tilt example.

the 720 is good but in 1080 I did not found the same. In the 1080 24p footage from the watch.impress site the images freeses a lot giving the feeling it is 6 fps instead of 24 fps. I just see it in the 1080 24p footage. there are two 1080 24p clips, the number 00014 and the number 00012 found below in the page. in the footage number 00012 the trees are freezing like the footage was 6 fps instead of 24 fps. to see it you need to seee the footage in a fullhd monitor or render a crop to see full screen in computer. i would like to ask if there are more people seeing this freezing.

Thanks to Sonic for making this available, much appreciated. One thing I looked at is the audio sample rate and frequency, looks as though it's at 48k 16 bit. This should be perfect if using an external recorder set to the same rate and/or if your using the GH1 as a b cam and taking the audio from the main camera. Hopefully this will address any sync drifting issues.

Can anyone confirm if this is the sample rate that the camera is recording at?

I dont know what the hell your smoking but it looks fine. I know what 6fps looks like and thats Far from it.

For me, Itd work great as a b-cam to my hmc. I hate the pulldown workflow but hey thats life.

I had the opposite reaction. I think the 1080p was great and thats what I will shoot.

Did you remove pulldown and conform to 23.976 because if you didn't then theres major interlace aliasing.

Regarding motion, only 2 of the shots from Sonics new private folder were shot at 1080 24p at 1/50 shutter and only one of them was an exterior, if you're judging filmlike motion the one exterior 1080 24p at 1/50 has a slow pan and looks just fine.

On the one exterior clip 1080 24p 100asa clip with the slow pan there is a gray stone wall in a slight shadow that is showing some compression issues. If I have my clip numbering correct OIs was on film mode was vibrant and IE was maximum. This may be working the codec or it may be my setup.
