The Official "Next Fest" Idea Submission Thread

This will just be an ongoing thread of all your ideas for future fests (comedy fest, zombie fest, etc, etc.)

Post 'em up here and we'll always have a list to refer to when thinking about the next fest :)

later,
Jason

oh, and this is not to take away from the fun of the "next fest" threads every fest... just for maintaining a master list of a lot of the ideas for easy access :)

later,
Jason

Well are you saying we should still start those threads or just move the conversation and banter into THIS thread? I think the former would defeat the purpose of this whole thing - which I like - so I vote that we just engage in the usual shenanigans right here.

For the next fest, I would very much like to see films dealing with:

  • Love
  • Loss of loved ones
  • or... films dealing with goals (commonly called "dreams") being achieved and manifested in reality!
Emotions, bring them on.

I'm feeling an action-esque Fest.

Examples:
WooFest - a homage to John Woo
WarFest - I saw a lot of this in the next ScriptFest ideas, I think it would be cool.
ActionFest - Straight up destruction and mayhem!

Just throwing some ideas out there. I'd love to make a short action flick. So theres my 2 cents.

I think those ideas are too specific. And we went for themes for a good reason. It needs to me more open.

I have to say though, that I like action as well :) But it is really hard to do, especially on a low budget.

We just did Love Fest a couple of Fest's ago so that probably won't happen.

Loss is interesting.

Loss is definitely interesting.

Let me also point out to those of you who are asking for a ComedyFest: the "themes" we have been going with leave the door open to ANY genre, INCLUDING COMEDY. You could have made a comedy for LoveFest, for TimeFest or for TwilightFest. I don't think there is any reason to lock everyone into that genre when anyone can easily explore it WITHIN a broader, more subjective theme.

And that same argument can be used for just about any other theme we come up with. The theme could be DEATH and we could get a movie like Four Weddings and a Funeral. :)

Now, the theme of COMEDY would lock people into doing something funny, thus forcing us into a bit of a corner. Which I like.
It would be challenging.

In the first paragraph, you made my point for me.

To the second one: that is definitely something to consider. Some people like the challenge, but some people like the openness that themes offer. I am sure it is open for debate. :)

But if the themes are so open that you can just do anything.... why bother having them? Call them Open Fest and be done with it.

I always try and write something based on the Theme.

Hallows Fest: Darkness.
Joel 3:15. A movie about the Sun disappearing and how one couple dealt with what they thought was their last days on earth.

Love Fest:
The Music Box. A little girl is given a mystical Music Box that gives her a glimpse of a possible future. It only plays music when she finds her true love. Only she finds him too late. Can she change her future?

Time Fest:
The Watchman. A man with OCD who is obsessed with living his life by a meticulously timed schedule. Once his schedule is abruptly altered he snaps and plans his ultimate revenge, timed down to the second.

Now, I could have really drifted into just about anything.

If they throw Comedy at us... yah, I can do a lot of things, but it has to be a comedy. To me that's more of a challenge.

Cheers,

Mike

Hehehe. Leave it to Luis to break up one of the few serious conversations The Penguin was apart of.

I know what you're saying, Mike. I, too, like a challenge. I'm just playing devil's advocate here - giving both sides. I don't really care either way. :)

Don't get me wrong, they are all a challenge. I'm just saying that if they announced Comedy Fest and made us do an actual Comedy (Sorry, Luis :D).... that could be tough.

The only argument to the contrary that I can see is the fact that VIEWERS like to be able to watch a wide variety of entries. Some people won't want to watch sixty funny pieces in a row.

From a CREATOR's point of view I can see both sides: I like a good challenge, but I also like SOME freedom. The themes are not completely "open," you still have to adhere to certain restraints. I know a lot of pieces from last fest, for example, that would not qualify for this one (ball requirement aside).

Warfest could be cool.

-Actual war
-war on the streets
-War within oneself
-War with a spouse
-etc
-etc

It could be really diverse in terms of ideas and execution.

Same could be said for Horror Fest. Yes, they can be either serious or funny, but people might not want to watch that many Horror based movies in a row.

I really think these arguments can be used for just about every Fest.
