The New F

I did, read it was targeting the Scarlet and C500...If it's in that range that would be amazing.
"Is that the real thing."
Yes, it is real. Price will be around 18k + external recorder for EXRUMOR sensor to deliver 4K. Just check the picture once again and you will find the real answer.

Hey, sorry to be lazy, but rather than reading an entire 30 pages of thread, can someone tell what the hell this camera is? I saw the picture and the features. I especially liked the part about periodically turning the camera off :) Anyone want to do a recap of the FACTS. Is this thing real? And if so, who are they aiming it at? I saw someone said the Scarlet people. Does that mean Scarlet for $10k or a Scarlet that can actually record a single frame, which costs closer to about $20k?

Any info would be great!

The only things that are official from Sony (via twitter) are:

4k
50 Mb/s 4:2:2
High Frame Rates
(I think there is one other thing that they have said, but I can't remember)

Let me add, if I may, the other "givens" that come with context of where the info is coming from, history, etc:

F camera. Previous F models include F900, F23, F35, F3, F65. (see a trend there? 4 out of 5 are relatively high-end)
S35 imager, being as the info is primarily coming from the Sony S35 marketing sources.

It's the F3 some people wish they had. You know the one.. the one that will meet certain min. broadcast specs ie. 50mbps and hopefully be 422. The one that would just shoot 4k for the people who want it - but yet still be HD for those who need nothing more.. and yes of course it will have high fps which all the rage these days for the modern filmmaker.

The big question is will it record 4k internally or require external option and recorder like its little sister FS700 ?

Lastly the price; somewhere over the F3 but well below the F65 which means no mechanical shutter and no 12-bit option possible.

The 4K option for the FS700, when it comes around, has already been pegged at 12bit.

Moreover, somebody else reputable, on Twitter, has said 16bit in reference to the new cam. Which just happens to be the depth of the link from the F65 to the R4 recorder when in RAW mode. I don't want to link to the tweet just in case it was borderline "safe" info to disseminate. I'm sure it can be found.

Someone under NDA let it slip that an external recorder would be required. That might fit nicely with the FS700, as the NAB promise of RAW is getting quite dated.

Cheers.

I cannot confirm what someone under NDA may or may not have leaked.

I must say that the thread is becoming interesting and that some speculation is pretty close. But I won't say what speculation. And to those who still haven't gotten the joke, the F54 Photoshop job is very clever-- but totally wrong.

Tuesday will be an interesting day.

Ned

The new cam only needs some descent bit level out like 10-bit. 16-bit would just make the price of an ext. recorder very expensive!

I suspect somewhere around NAB they realized that they couldn't spill on the FS700 solution without giving away the next step for the F-line, so it all got pushed back.
