The New F

you're funny :))

Let's not forget: an announcement doesn't mean you'll get one any time soon.

I was on a shoot with an F3 and I have been lusting for one ever since. The prospect of 50mbps 4:2:2 is plenty, 4K back would be great. If they can keep it to $20K I'm in trouble. I'd go for that.

Am I the only person who's completely fed up with this new trend for announcements of announcements? Whatever happened to the "Build it and they will come" philosophy?

I don't really care either way, it doesn't really affect me. I either know what day something is going to get announced, and I have something to look forward to, or I get a nice surprise one day when a product is announced. Why does it bother you so much?

Because I don't possess the willpower to stay away from pointless speculation threads that achieve little more than wasting my time.

If the temptation isn't there, I can't use the threads as as means to procrastinate!

Yeah, you're the only one.

But really, I like all this speculation and anticipation.

I think they're borrowing a page from Red's playbook to build up the anticipation.

So far the camera sounds nice, but if it's targeted for TV episodics, then it's probably out of my price range. I hope something trickles down to the FS100/700/F3 price range.

Right or wrong this held me back on the cheap Scarlet deal.

That was probably their tactic. That descision could have bluffed me big time, or saved me from buying a raw only camera which is not what I really want.

I bought the 7d to get 25p about a week before 25p came to the 5d - financial mistake

The whole thing is a lottery.

Id prefer pre announcements to nothing - Id prefer a solid clear open road map so much more..

It was fun in the early days of RED, but everyone is doing these teasers now and it's getting a little silly.

Also silly is the way manufacturers trip over themselves to get their new cameras into the hands of bloggers. Some of whom simply aren't up to the task.

Announcements yes, road maps, yes, but pictures of venetian blinds or red drapes or empty an stage, no. That said, these teasers clearly work - we're all discussing it!

Yep they know the specs, there is no point not just telling them; even as 'TBC'

I think they just did some fire fighting when the cheap Scarlets came up - seeing that they might lose 50 sales in a week

They also need to fire fight the BMC

I actually think it is the other way around. RED will know pretty much exactly what Sony are bringing out. Expect to see several posts on REDuser this week about how great their next sensor/upgrade is and how upgradabilty/modularity is the most import thing (now they can't beat the resolution/raw drum).

It's funny... not that long ago people on this very forum were discussing why the F3 wasn't more popular. The main accusation was that Sony weren't very good at using publicity and hyping the products like some other manufacturers. Now they're doing a better job and in many ways copying the Red/Canon way of raising expectations prior to launch, people are moaning about it!

If the camera meets the hype, then this is a smart move... it's certainly got everyone talking about Sony again.

October 23 today - seven more days to go. But I expect to see more solid information already this week. The most important information - price - will come late I'm afraid.
