Id like..

S35
ND
2.5k raw
grown up connections
pro res option at least 70mbs

a grown up BMC for 50-100% more cash and available

On the off chance that it is full frame - wonderful - heaps of bargain glass including wides that only fools would feel the need to shoot wide open.

There's only one thing to really say about all of this.

If it is a camera it will definitely be 4k and definitely require an external recorder and possibly require a paid update (or maybe come equipped with 4k). My guess is it will be priced well against the C500 @ around $25,000 base price.

Unfortunately for me that is where I get off the train and head for the nearest koolaid stand.

Twatter CVP hinting around scarlet price, one can speculate a spec from there

I wonder if sony have the balls to conceptualise a good camera - they could do something amazing for $15g if they sacked a few people and hired a few from BMC

S

Gotta watch that twatter.. its easy to speculate scarlet price but fail to mention the add ons, upgrades, waiting games, and other unforeseen costs...

Anyway my dear, kind and true F3 friends this morning I officially did in fact drink the RED koolaid. I decided that no matter what happens from here on in the F4K will far exceed my reach financially once you consider all the bits and pieces needed to make it work 4k. More mounts, more power, more footprint. This is ass backwards, or like pissing in the wind.

As they say here in Canada on the TV show Dragon's Den, "I'm out."

You got one?

Its interesting - if find the red add ons to be the killer and hope the sony might use my monitor and the rest, creating a saving over a built scarlet

(dream on!)

S

I did indeed. With the fire sale being offered by RED it made perfect economical sense and I only hesitated until 3 in the morning, then pulled the trigger a couple hours ago.

You are right however, add-ons are add-ons all the same. Funny how one can manipulate themselves.

Had a briefing today on The New F.

I am under NDA and cant say much.

Wow! Answers a wide range of F3 concerns. More than I expected.

I understand that you are under NDA and cant talk about anything relating to Sony. So let me ask you something about RED.

Would now be a bad time to buy a Scarlet?

I didn't know F3 had any concerns? To me it's just a great camera.

The F3 is and remains a great camera which produces a great image.

There have been concerns voiced about internal codec, viewfinder, handle, form factor and menu structure. I think users will find that these issues have been addressed and then some.

I also don't really see a need in this thread to rehash the old F3 vs Scarlet discussion. There are choices in the marketplace and in the final analysis both are tools toward an end. And the great thing about competition is that it keeps every manufacturer on their toes. We users are the beneficiaries. But everyone already knows that. My point is that Sony is about to expand the product line to fill the large gap between F3 and F65.

Im not refreshing the Scarlet v F3 discussion - im aware of the ups and downs of both

Im aksing about the Scarlet Fx discusion :)

For example no ND on a scarlet is a big downer to me, no XLR too, but thin codecs and/or recorders are a downer too so..

Im not refreshing the Scarlet v F3 discussion....

I am.

With Sony inevitabley introducing 4k models to fill the gap between the F3 and the F65 there's never been a better time to hash out F# vs RED discussions.

For some people 4k is the least of their concerns which is why a more robust F3 capable camera with higher bitrates and improved ergonomics will be a real hit. For others the 4k upgrade path will leave them feeling good (kind of like owning a hybrid car) but reality with most "all-in-one" solutions is the overall higher total cost of ownership in the long run. This lastly leaves the people who only want 4k and only care about 4k. These people are not going to fork out even $15k for a F# then pay for 4k upgrade and then buy a 4k ext. recorder and media cards to boot. RED definitely enters the equation at that point.

If this comes out at $15k including the 4k option I will be impressed and be the first to throw down a deposit. (I will also eat my shirt)

So reading between the lines we'll see something like a competitor to the C500 or Red Epic.

^ definitely in the neighbourhood of the C500 but only close to Epic if it additionally does up to 120 FPS and features resolution higher than 4k.

I'm just waiting for someone to come out with an 8k camera and 8k recorder. 4k is sooooo last year :P

Enjoy! It's certainly a buyer's market at the moment.

Wild speculation

There have been concerns voiced about
internal codec (will now be 50mbs+)
viewfinder, (will be beefed up/removable/not exist)
handle, (will be beefed up/removable/not exist)

I think users will find that these issues have been addressed

and then some. (it outputs something good to a recorder you can buy)

I hope its 2k raw - creates a wall with the F65 and commercailly sustainable data rates.. IMO
