The New F

I love the images from my F3, but it's a seriously flawed design ergonomically and it's been a total PITA and expensive to set up the way I like it.
While I'm hopeful this announcement will be something better, I predict Sony will blow it again. I mean really, it seems like the old "Walkman" team has been in charge of designing the camera bodies lately...

From Sony's announcement:
"But we don’t believe in simply shouting to everyone and anyone. We want to tell those who want to hear."

-This is why so many Producers and clients want a C300 or RED over a F3. Because they've never heard of it!!.. We've discussed it before, Sony needs to be screaming from the mountain top and hyping the hell out of the F series. I talk to people who aren't even in the industry and they've heard of the C300 and 5D.

So true! I started another thread on this...why the F3 isn't as popular as it should be....and that is the exact reason! Why for the love of all things holy would they not want to tell this to EVERYONE? "We want to tell those who want to hear." Who came up with that genius advertising motto? So this is a secret camera club, for DPs who enjoy having to de-brainwash clients who only know buzzwords like 5d, Red, raw, and the fourkays and don't know what any of it means?

Anyway looking forward to finding out what the ruckus is about. Interesting that Peter Crithary recently mentioned an upcoming firmware update to the F3, and now they are announcing a new F-?

Yeah, more than 4K I'd just like a body with a halfway pro EVF, and the finder able to be positioned in the right place.

I love the image my F3 makes with S-Log, but from an ergonomic and an AC point of view, it's a total pain-in-the-butt. Sony totally has the resources to make a modern, high-res, affordable EVF but they never do so.

We'll see, the F65 was certainly improved somewhat over the F35 with it's built-in shoulder pad. If we can get a similar sort of shoulder-pad/evf placement/ratio - that at least would be a substantial step forward.

All I'm hoping for is 1080p with at least a 50Mbps codec and at least 60p. I'd rather have DR and low light sensitivity vs. 4k.

Let's hope it will be as exciting as the guy from CVP Group says it is. I think Ned is also pretty excited about this, too.

Someone said S35... but werent' there just several Full Frame Sony DSLrs released???

Could this be the first real 135/Full Frame Camera? It kinda makes sense, at least at first glance, if they're gonna offer something that fits in but doesn't necessarily disrupt their current offers?

Oh no.... not the FF bandwagon all over again!

Good call Kholi, good call.

Why'd you have to go and suggest that Kholi? :undecided Now I'm foolishly geeking out at the possibilities, damn you!

I am betting on another camera with a low-bit rate internal substandard codec, 4K that's not enabled--yet (then sell it for an almost crippling price then offer it for free when marketing needs a push), with frame rates that disappoint, on a camera with cheap/plastiky parts with terrible ergonomics, designed by "the walkman" team that never shot anything, with a lens mount for consumer-grade glass (which is on endless backorder), having complicated/convoluted color-tweaking menus that make no sense, and some gimmicky buttons/blinking lights that please fanboys wearing Sony hats and shirts.

DISCLAIMER: I own and love the imagery coming from my F3, but have not been pleased with Sony's products and marketing since I plunked-down $$$ for one of the first F3's shipped, then full-rate for SLOG. Now, Red has my attention (and business) and continues to be where I look to the future...Sony, are you listening?

CVP pushes the new thing - > "TheNewF is the decision you won't regret."

Let's assume it's
A camera
Shoots4k
4:4:4
10/12-bit
+120fps
+14 DR
FF sensor

Or

It's something very affordable.

Editman: you're dreaming! (if they do even half of your list, I'll be shocked and amazed!) Shipping without the items "enabled" doesn't qualify either.

I'm also thinking in terms of:

Sony F35 trickled down to Sony F3 - 1080 cameras
Sony F65 trickled down to Sony F5 - 4k cameras

But hey, dreams of the future are always nice!

Good comparison. We'll see.
Their product-line is getting more diluted than Canon's. Instead of making a camera for each level of user/need/day-of-the-week, how about 2 or 3 that meet everyone's needs!?
