It's exactly what happened, I believe. The italian guy on Facebook that has did this statement is a reseller, probably the camera was showed to him and other few people, he already knows the specs and told to the community that some of this specs are fabulous.
 
Considering all of the Canon employees, ambassadors, beta testers, retailers, friends and family...it's probably more than a few.

Even people who have seen/read the specs, but might not know what they mean, know about the camera (workers in factories, etc).
 
Only one guy (who runs a news/tech site) said yesterday on Twitter it would be today...but nothing yet.

No one else said it would be today, including Canon Rumors or Canon Watch.
 
I don't remember if any Canon cameras were ever announced here later in our day, but FWIW it will be 9am in Japan in 2.5 hours.

If they did announce it in their morning, I'd expect a press release to go out at 8-9-10am, and then the standard Melville one here from LI.

To triple check, any reason we should be wary? Definitely not a render? Etc.

Shouldn't be wary...all signs point to the camera being announced sometime within the next 96 hours.

Well it's not like I have nothing better to do than sit on twitter Al day, I also did respond to you.. I was given information from my contact, looks like they are about 12 hours off their mark but the announcement is made this morning depending on where you are in the world.

IT'S only another camera after all... No reason to get so obsessed about it :)
 
It seems that in about 14 hours there will be a Canon event in my city and hopefully I will be able to get my hands on it. The store that is holding the event didn't name what we will see but said that we will be one of the first people in Europe to touch the product they will have at the event so it has to be the new C200. So excited, even if it's probably out of my budget :)
