"The Light Once Captured"

You are on a boat? :)

One of the coolest locations I ever saw in here.
In the same league with that space ship a few years ago.

Can't wait to see the whole shebang.

Thought I would get this out of the way :)

Read the Captains Badge. 555 is the actual number desigination of the USS DOLPHIN...the sub we filmed on. Going to put some more BTS stuff together soon...heading out of town for a couple of days though

I didn't break the equipment, I created job security because I'm the only one that knows how to make it work.

And yes EJB that is a nice photo isn't hit :). I will try to remember that guys name when putting the credits together...unless said guy did in fact break our only piece of audio recording gear on Sunday night :)

make sure to watch and wait for the credits on mine and be treated to so awesome 80's rock that Sebastian composed for us :)

VERY well done! Sets were awesome, camerawork was great, acting was great. Wasnt sure about the ending however, was it like a magic camera that gave him visions?

Going to pick out a special mention to some shots for my comments here, just because they were good - driving shots when the camera moved down to him driving - excellent. Really liked your comp when he was floating in the water as well as the washed up on the beach shots - very nice camera movement and thought the reversal was very well used.

The submarine setting was incredible; that must have been difficult to film in. I liked the cynical line at the end, I just wish it had been delivered more naturally.

This one had a lot of great moments. I love the idea of an object passing on its history in a way. Cool stuff!

Great job with this short. You can tell how much planning, thought and hard work went into this one, and the amount that you were able to pull off is insane -- camera moves, extras, locations -- wow. You really went for it. I like the song in the beginning, the look of the main actor, I love the shot from underwater looking up at the guy's body.
Critiques: Some of the acting felt forced -- I'm sure I was holding the acting to a higher standard because it felt like it needed to match the high production quality, but it just didn't always hit the mark for me.
I was hoping for a more dramatic story -- when all is said and done, for how many crazy things you pulled off in this production, I wish they had served a more compelling narrative. Without a character with any compelling motives, many of the high production value things you did ultimately just seem flashy. I hope that doesn't sound too negative, because you did an incredible job with this short, I just think more could have been done with the story to put this over the top. Anyway, huge congrats for reaching for the sky with this and for what you accomplished. Oh and your poster is pretty solidly my favorite of the fest

I want to see a feature version.
Same director.
Same lead.
Same cinematographer.
Absolutely captivating work.

Any twighlight zone influence here?

The film follows a simple and fun premise - that works quite well - with the old man's passing line of dialogue running only too true (for us guys and our morbid curiousities.) The setting of the submarine was a novel and unexpected location that worked quite well, all in all that and the exteriors looked very nice, - looked quite expensive! Its a shame that the sound quality was so particularly poor on this film (very tinny? was there a hell of a lot of noise correction required or?)

Overall a nice little short film, entertaining and unassumingly safe!

I thought this was excellent, as mentioned before the camera work was very well done and the story line was very creative. I do have one question though, how did you shoot the opening scene with the camera floating down the passenger window. Would love to see the BTS setup for this. Nice job, and good luck.

I loved your film. I am a huge Twilight Zone fan and this felt like it would be a great little episode. The locations are obviously awesome and the camera work was stellar.

What I loved most though was that last line - it was perfect. This was such an enjoyable film - definitely one of my favorites in the Fest
