Hey Guys.
Just finished up a quick teaser/trailer for an album release. Thought I'd share.

The concept - The Liberation Chronicles is a planned 7 album release from dub/reggae artist Dr. Israel. Each album release will be accompanied by a live action episode(probably around 7-10min short), a graphic novel, and a written element. The story will be told in these four mediums by four different points of view.

The story - With multiple wars in numerous countries, the government has spread itself thin, becoming bankrupt and unable to maintain it's grip. The corporate giant OmniCore offers a buy-out and within a few short years has control over the land. They redistribute the population based on wealth and cordon off the cities. The mysterious Church of the Seven Angels exists as likely resistance to OmniCore, but little is known about them or their ultimate goal. Doc, as the "Ghetto Defendant", and his revolutionary cohorts find themselves in the middle of these two forces as they wrestle for control of Neo-Acropolis 13 (former New York). It's a post apocalyptic parable about a dreadlocked insurrectionist battling an evil multi-national corporate autocracy. It's a story of man vs. machine, of creativity against politics. It's an anecdote for rebellion in the 21st century.

The deal - The first album of the Liberation Chronicles won't be out until fall 2012. To start to build interest, and work on the concept, we've done a small digital package for free download on Doc's site - www.drisrael.net With it comes a new 5 song EP, the teaser for the episodes, a look at some graphic novel art, and a written piece. It was released on Jan. 1 during a live performance in San Francisco. Definitely download it if you're into dub/reggae, dance hall or dubstep. Doc's been around a while and makes excellent music. It also exists on youtube and vimeo.

I directed, shot and edited the short. I worked on the story with Doc, but it's his idea and concept. Doc did all the sound/music. There were a lot of firsts involved as it had been a while since I'd shot anything. First time really shooting with the GH2. First time using Premier Pro after switching over from Final Cut. First time grading through Magic Bullet. All that said, I definitely caught up a bit and figured out a lot of what needs to happen for the future episodes. And, of course, what I would like to do better. I guess it kind of reads like a music video. I've been a long time frequenter of this forum and really enjoy seeing what everyone is working on. Guess I wanted to add to it and put something up for your hopeful enjoyment. Feel free to remark or comment. I don't bruise easily and appreciate anyone who takes the time to actually view the thing and share a thought.

Feels nice to have something to post. Thanks for checking it out.

I though the trailer was very interesting. I actually watched it all the way through. Even without explanation you get the point of what's going on. One thing I would say about the action is though is to make quicker cuts to make it tighter to have more of an impact. Since there was no sound throughout the whole thing, the line at the end kind of threw me off. Overall good job though on making an artistic trailer a bit different from the norm.

Marlon,
Thanks for the feedback. I take watching it all the way through as a legit compliment, and I appreciate the advice. Like anything, now that it's done I can think of a lot I would do differently, but it's good to hear what reads and what doesn't and I'll take all of that with me into the next project. I'm going to hang my hat on "artistic trailer a bit different from the norm", though. I like that.
Been enjoying following The Jones'. Real impressed with what you're doing and the sweat you're putting into it to make it happen. Don't think any differently, it goes a long way to motivate a lot of us other forum members. Congratulations on locking picture. Looking forward to seeing it when the time comes.

thanks again for the view and post.

you're a sound guy! you're not going to miss that. does mean you watched to the end though. thank you.
the whole thing was meant to be cut to a remix of one of the EP songs, so we didn't shoot with sound. i sent the cut off to the artist and he dubbed in his own voice.

It was not bad concerning sync... But I had some "sync daughts" on the "w" of "now"...

So I still daughted... But it's also the "clear" background etc...although it easely could have been direct sound

For me a number of shots were a bit too low valued for my taste. I also think the sunset/martialarts form sequence was over used.
