Who would have thought Conan could get arrested?

"It's just been brought to my attention that, while they were Harvard undergraduates, Jeff Zucker '86 called the cops on Conan O'Brien '85. (I never saw previous reports about this.) According to articles in both the Harvard Crimson and Yale Daily News, Zucker, then president of the university's Harvard Crimson daily newspaper, dispatched the police to the Harvard Lampoon office after O'Brien, who was president of the campus humor magazine, organized a prank on his college rival -- stealing an entire print run of the Crimson before it could be distributed. "He only forgave me when I gave him The Tonight Show," Zucker told a Yale gathering back in 2005. The Harvard Crimson described the incident this way in a 2004 article about Conan landing The Tonight Show courtesy of Zucker: "O’Brien cut his teeth in comedy as president of The Harvard Lampoon, a semi-secret Sorrento Square social organization that used to occasionally publish a so-called humor magazine. In fact, O’Brien first met Zucker, his current boss, one day when O’Brien and the Lampoon editors stole all the copies of that morning’s Crimson. Zucker, then Crimson President, called the police and met O’Brien face to face while he was being arrested." In 2001, Conan told The New Yorker this about the incident: "College pranks are supposed to be clever, but our rivalry with the Crimson had degenerated into us stealing something, Jeff calling the police, and the police making us haul it back," said O'Brien. (Other Lampoon pranks on Zucker included "a fake phone-sex ad with Zucker’s dorm-room phone number. Zucker did not find any of this particularly hilarious.") So what's to glean from this Harvard history lesson? Yes, Jeff Zucker was a thin-skinned prick who didn't understand comedy or know how to handle creatives even back then."

LOL:) That's some funny stuff! I bet more comes out about Zucker and his wife in the next 30 days.

Geez, I'll I can say is I think so highly of Conan for going on air tonight after his day (today) and trying to play it off like things are good. Man, I respect Conan.

Conan will walk with $32M and no none compete, he could have taken $60M and sat back for 3 1/2 years.

I'm thinking I should fly down to LA and see one of his shows before it's too late. I've been a fan for years.

(Then I could go see Avatar in IMAX on the same trip...)

For those that don't know a very high up guy at FOX has been best buds with Conan since they were 20ish. For those that don't know show biz it is a small world of 'made men/woman'.

Glad Pee Wee just got a show btw!

EDIT: That's the old pee wee herman show that is back. I'm serious, I bet it'll get good ratings. Sorry to be off topic.

If he's going to have a show (on Fox), then it's not that critical.

Shame I'm totally bogged down at work ... and it's like $800 to go to LA and back from here. That's a lot of cheddar.

Plus, I'm not sure having access to "NBC employee" tickets would do much for my chances at getting in at this point.

Conan will be on FOX when the time slot is open in less than a year going head to head with Jay and Letterman.

was reading an article today... basically the gist was easier said than done... but, if they want it to happen it could definitely happen. main thing is contracts with already successful reruns running at that time that affiliates run, and there would have to be some payoffs and such for those, which could become costly.

You do know Conan's best bud runs FOX and these conversations took place 2 months ago. Conan will not goto a new net sidelining other shows after what happened to him. He 'could' take the slot Jan 25th if he asked, but he didn't. Won't.

like i said, if they want it to happen it would... but... money talks :)

and, sounds like there could be quite a lot of it in terms of payoffs to free up that time slot... unless they did it at the 30 minute later time slot, but then it would start same time as leno, etc and that's probably not nearly as appealing to them as having a 30 minute jump on the other late night shows.
