Finally picked up my new DVX100B this week, equipped it with a B+W UV and Polarizer, and headed into the backyard and shot some stuff:

Overall, I have to say, it's slightly better than my school's PD150 :)
 
You've got a little blow-out going on with the chairs and window sills, other than that very nice. If you were using auto exposure, try setting it to -1 or -2. That might help.

Have fun wtih your new camera. The possibilities are endless. I've had my 100A since November and I think I'll keep learning until I'm burried six feet under!
 
Look how much nicer the reds look with the polarizer on -- deeper, richer. Polarizers don't just remove reflections, they remove glare. Try the polarizer against grass outdoors, it'll really make the greens pop!
 
wow.... Does teh polarizer help keep the Reds from blowing out? cause my DVx would have turned thoes Red panels into a LEGO block festival.
 
slightly better than your school's PD-150? Let me tell you Mr., I have extensive use with the PD-150 and DVX100B...the DVX is WAAAAAAYYYY better! Although I guess a lot of my opinion is based on how lots of good shorts/student films are shot with DVX, and lots of bad films are shot with PD-150...but anyway no progressive on PD-150, so that settles it!
 
I think when he said slightly better he may have been a bit sarcastic. Saracasm just doesn't translate to print. I'm telling you there should be a sarcasm font.
 
Yea, I could actually watch the glare on the grass disappear as I turned the polarizer and the green really came out. The window was just the most dramatic example I saw.

And yes, 'slightly' was sarcastic. lol, i tried to convey it with the smiley...

Yes! Grass becomes such a brilliant shade of green with a polarizer (or really any color, I suppose). Polarizers outside = very good friend. :)

I really like your grabs as well. They look nice.
 
Great grabs! Not only are the colors nice and saturated, but these grabs are not grainy...they look like Digital SLR stills. Really nice...

Since this is an auto focus camera lens, is a "Circular Polarizing" filter required, as in still photography auto focus cameras?

Your question was answered above. No. Linear or circular work fine with DVX lens. Unless you want to use with other still cameras, save some money and buy linear.
 
Having observed the answers to the posted questions about polarizers I'll add a couple more.

If I understand correctly, the circular polarizer (with its adjustable polarization) is just not necessary?

Also. Do you keep the UV filter on and slap the polarizer on top of that?

Just wondering.

Nice shot with the red wall and window, BTW. That really demonstrates how effective the polarizer is with them damned reflections and, as Barry pointed out,
the colours really DO become richer.

I think I needs me a polarizer.
