The Hosen Temple, Osaka, Japan 1080p

Hi Folks,

From a recent business trip to Japan I brought some footage from an interesting ceremony: Nomataki

Have fun watching. Shot on GH1 in 1080p mode, using mostly a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 lens.

I first wanted to use a typical japanese soundtrack, but then for "documentary" reasons decided against it. Hence, sound comes from the internal camera mic (I left everything at home, Zoom, tripod, ... travelling light).

Hope you like it, best regards, Gunther

Impecable as ever. :2vrolijk_08:

So did you burn a prayer?

And I stil want to know how you manage to keep the camera so steady. Still with the bag of rice?

me likey!
great documentary work there.....so hard to catch the action AND compose a beautiful shot!

Aehmm ..no. I was busy filming ;-)

Yes, its the famous bag of rice and the camera bag (strapped around the neck, cam pressed downwards - not too bad).

Thank you! Yes, thats really difficult - you know it will be over in 5 minutes, so just shoot!

Loved the original sound! Can you explain more about the bag of rice. I am not sure I understand what you are doing...?

Thanks - I always carry a small bag of rice which I place between the cam and the ground (or an armrest, chair, rails, whatever). This allows to align the cam quickly to every angle and gives a very nice stabilization.

Makes me want to go back to Japan! Nice work :)

Slight critique:
Some of the handheld stuff is a little bit shakey. And the wooden board with the text on it could have been completely in focus.

Thank you for the feedback, Simon, really appreciate every feedback I can get!
You are absolutely right with you points.

Great work again Gunther. Really nice composition in some of the shots. Not bad for travelling light!
