On the EX1 we had the ability to use the side dial to set levels for chanel 1 and use chanel 2 as a backup which would record at 20 percent lower volume. But on the FS7 the two chanels work independently from each other. So you have no way to have chanel 2 follow chanel 1. That seems to be a major step back.

normally you can have two input 1 and control them manually i alway do that to have differents levels on same audio input.

I've seen what you're talking about and it's mostly on "prosumer" cameras. I have a client that has a lot of "handycam" Panasonics that let you just plug an XLR into one input and then assign it to both ch's. Just send ch. 2 the same signal(feed) and pot it down. Or if it's a mic running straight into the cam(not through a mixer), just put a splitter on the XLR to send it into both ch's.

Must be an amateur if he's recording audio in-camera. That's what Sound Recordists are for.

This leads me to the level + sides issue. Isofar as you can set recording volume on the side, why use internal level? I don't get it.

plug xlr mic on input1 and in menu choose input1 for ch1 and input 1 for chanel 2 next, on left camera turn manual on two slot and setup your level. you can't do that with internal mic, only xlr mic is supported if i well remember. i just did the test with my xlr mic and i can control level with the manual wheels no problem.
