Wow, it hard to cut through all the crap so I don't really know who to go after. I encourage any of you who are serious enought to engage in intelligent discussion to email me personally: joshoakhurst@privilgefilms.com

OR

Post up a comment on anything you wish over at my blog: www.JoshOakhurst.com

To the rest of you - remember, I didn't create this thread to convince you all on why the Z1U is better than the HVX. I don't have ties to either company, and I'm certainly not on Sony's marketing payroll.

THIS FORUM (duh?) is the last place on earth I would care to start a discussion about the Small Four Indie HD Cameras. I was not interviewed by FresHDV in effort to change anyone's mind about what tools work best for them. I have no stake in the projects you take on, nor do I care how you create your own little version of magic.

The whole reason for the existence of my blog is to talk about WHAT I DO and how I believe my experience may help others. I hope to be an entertaining resource on HD production and if you dissagree with my opinion then I encourage you to either contact me directly or ***** about it here - really - whatever makes you feel better.

I'm not in the business of defending myself, just wanted to jump in here to share a bit more information. Thank you to the few professionals in the room kind enough to be civil.

Josh: I think the problem is that when you refer to people as "f'ing retarded" and "stupid" for their choice in tools. How do you expect anyone to take you seriously? All of the current available tools have certain applications. Don't you think it's a little arrogant to say this or that is best without the known context of a particular application?

Your entire rejection of the HVX and P2 is based on cost, one that is already on the downward slope. And beyond that you declare it's not the future, again, because of cost. If that's the case, I wonder what your explanation is for the scarcity of HVX units and P2 cards. I don't think it's a manufacturing issue, I think it's a demand issue.

.

How do you expect anyone to engage in an intelligent discussion when you have the mouth of a junior highschool student.

I cry "Hudson, Jarred, and Barry, oh my!" on this thread, somebody should take this down. There just seems to be a lot of misinterpretation/anger/BS-ing/sniping going on.

I don't think there's any harm in allowing the discussion to continue. I mean, there's a point where you have to sniff out people who arbitrarily impose their opinions as facts, or opinions as those of experts. It's a normal cycle in any online community.

Regardless of your school or job, you should be paid more than someone who doesn't have a degree no matter what, unless I'm mistaken to the exception.

You might be mistaken.

A degree doesn't make you a great filmaker.

It just makes you a filmaker with a degree.

Exactly, how do you distinguish between the two?

If you are talking about the relative merits of the cams, it's really opinion.

But if you say the Sony can support 720 P, and the Canon cannot, it's not a fact or an opinion --- it's just plain wrong.

What I'm saying is that it seems that most of the posters here have the opinion that the HVX200 produces a better picture and makes sense for workflow, etc.

Other people, like Josh, don't. but I don't see him lying about anything. Although I agree that profanity undermines his credibility.

Aren't those both opinions? People aren't imposing anything, just expressing.

Or how do you handle the statement that P2 technology is too expensive. Is that opinion, a fact or what?
