The EVF answer? TVLogic EVF035W-3G

More expensive or not a Sony EVF will work. Just as reliable as the cameras do and that is all I want.

I have a DP6/SDI as well, and routinely switch between HDMI and SDI. I can purchase one unit and know it will work with anything.

Ah.. the FS100, forgot about that guy needing a VF and being HDMI.

Just think that HDMI is sooo unnecessary with pro gear or pro-sumer for that matter.

Well I had an AF100, and here is the funny thing, I had an SDI cable go bad. On the FS100, which I've used for the same amount of time, I've never had an HDMI cable go bad. Would I prefer SDI? Yes. But, I found this ironic. :)

With SDI over coax and a BNC plug anyone can make up any size cable any time they want for cheap. Can't say that with HDMI.

In a professional setting there are still a couple of uses for HDMI. Some clients want to see footage on 'their' HDTV. I tell them its ungraded, colors won't match, etc. But hey, if they are dead set on seeing footage straight out of the camera I can give it. Also, the FS100 does make a nice B cam.

We're mainly talking in the professional realm, where you would never have just an HDMI. ( no offense )

Yeah, you're right. No professional like, say, Shane Hurlbut or Rodney Charters or Matthew Libatique, would ever use a camera with only HDMI.

I love SDI, hate HDMI, but buying an EVF that has both gives me flexibility in a pinch, *may* permit me to cross convert on the fly, and... here's the key thing... means I can rent it out to anyone with an HDMI or SDI camera!

I'm not talking about people, I'm talking equipment. This is a equipment forum. I don't care who uses what.

Most "Pro HD gear" is set up for SDI, monitors, converters, recorders, cameras, wireless transmitters, steadicams ops, crane ops, video village, production trucks etc. All I'm saying is, if they (the equipment) want to function well, in a full on production environment, they should go with what works well, and what is already established. And not go backwards, to a bad connector that was made to cater to consumer TV's.
It's just a bad fitting, low bit rate, non DYI sizing, too thick, etc, etc, pain, that we now, have to deal with. Done.

Actually, this is not just an equipment forum, it serves many different purposes for many different people.

If a professional wants to use a 5D for a shot because of the form factor, and needs an external display, they are going to be FORCED to use HDMI at least at the camera. It's not a matter of what professionals would like to use, it's a matter of the reality of what exists. I think SDI is more robust, and understand why it is used, but it doesn't change the fact that professionals will use whatever equipment they need to do something, and that can mean using unconventional equipment because it can do something a professional camera cannot.

I think cameras like the FS100 should have SDI, but I can't control that. Am I not going to use the camera because it doesn't have SDI? No. I'm going to deal with it. Luckily, I bought an external monitor that can support both HMDI and SDI and I can be free to use whatever I want. It means my equipment has more possible uses and I like that.

So, they never used 5D MKII???... Doubt it...

Absolutely true, but I do think after a whirlwind romance, a lot of working pros are just saying no to the problems that DSLRs entail on a paid job. I haven't seen or heard of one used in my neck of the woods for a while...but I should qualify that statement. These are jobs with budgets of say at least $10K opt for F3s, or AF100, or a Red (various flavors of which can be had at literally any price).

HDMI has always been a headache...and people are avoiding it any way they can in my parts.
