The EVF answer? TVLogic EVF035W-3G

The Alphatron EVF is due to begin shipping at the end of the month. Alister received a test unit at the same time I did and we've been giving them feedback on any slight tweaks before shipping the production models. The EVF is pretty spectacular, with all the performance one might hope for. We had ours at CineGear and it is currently on display in our NY office showroom, mounted on an FS100.

Mitch, any chance that you might sell something like the EVF mount Alister features in that video?

Alister's rig is pretty homebrew, but we sell several solutions. Depends on what camera to suggest a best solution. One that I came up with just used a couple of basic Zacuto parts and worked great.

Mitch do you know if Solid Camera is working on an EVF mount for the F3? The EVF mount they did for the FS100 is the best I have seen yet, so it is no wonder you have chosen to feature the Alphatron on a showroom demo using the FS100/Solid Camera EVF mount.

Mitch, I'd be interested in seeing what you guys were thinking about for the F3. I've heard that using Noga/Zamerican arms doesn't quite cut it if you want to push your eye up against it like a real eyepiece...

I've posted these photos before here a while ago but this is what I came up with using Zacuto parts attached to my Berkey top plate. It removes quickly, infinitely adjustable and is rock solid.

Just noticed it appears the Alphatron lack 1:1 focus assist, & relies on peaking only.

Not a deal killer, & I will be buying one.

I have not yet used the Alphatron, but I sure miss the days when the EVF was good enough to not need focus assist. The peaking on the black & white EVF's on Varicams and F900's was good. When the color LCD's came out - they were a huge step backwards in terms of focus and required the focus assist. Here's hoping the Alphatron gives us the best of both worlds.

Although I don't know for sure, I suspect that they are only a firmware update away from adding an assist function if was really needed.

This viewfinder, with an appropriate mount, can't come quickly enough. I wish I had it for my shoots this coming week. I'm still curios to see if it can be mounted far enough forward that the camera can be positioned with the weight mostly on the shoulder. I did a shoot last week where I brought the ex3 with me to do handheld, but still ended up pulling the f3 off the sticks to get some handheld shots. It seems so close to being usable in that manner, though I was limited to short shots and was never certain of focus. I know many of us have high hopes, if the Alphaville is as good as it sounds I think it'll be all about the mount.

Have a look at this video. It should answer your question about the friciton plates on the mounting system...

or there is this one, as well...

Looks like the Alphatron won't be available til July. Just got an email from Abel. This thing has really been heavily delayed considering I placed a preorder in January.

Do you have the SDI Cineroid? Also do you need the Berkey front plate to get it forward enough. I have the top plate, but saw the front plate added on their site. Also if no front plate can it be mounted to one of the first 1/4 20's on top plate and can the face of dovetail be flat with left side of camera and that top bracket not hit the front handle mount.

I do have the SDI cineroid. And no berkey front plate as well, just the top plate. I have mine mounted on the first couple of 1/4-20's, as you explain, and mine doesn't hit whatsoever. You have complete movement of the bracket.

Pictures, please?

Here are a few pics, let me know if you want something specific and I can try to get it done:
