The closer we come to NAB...

Nice film clip. I didn´t know it. Werner Herzog and Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas) are some of the older filmmaker here in germany. Nowadays we have some good younger age.

I don´t know where you come from, but some states outside the EU don´t need a visa like USA, Canada, Australia. They can stay as a guest up to 3 months.

But sure, for working you need a work permit. And that´s hard to get...

Thanks for the info, bookmarked.

I studied New German Cinema a bit as an undergrad because my film professor was from Germany. And I've visited Berlin for a few days when I was in high school and loved it, I got great service at the pubs because of my American tipping habits. (And the fact that I couldn't drink in pubs in the states at that age made it all that much more of an experience)

So what are some good contemporary German films that you would recommend me check out? (Besides Run Lola Run and the Lives of Others, both great movies)

And to Mattis, if you have any recommendations for contemporary Swedish cinema, I'd appreciate that as well. I'm a fan of Sweden as well. Bergman = genious.

the best german film i've seen the last few years is "addicted to acting". wonderful documentary, one of the best i've seen. swedish films i recommend are "the guitar mongoloid" by ruben östlund, and also even though i didn't like it quite as much, his latest feature "the involuntary". both showing a unique vision of sweden and the swedes that maybe aren't featured in films that often. "****ing åmål" by lukas moodysson is of course the best contemporary swedish film, if you haven't seen it run for it. i'm sure you haven't missed the recent international success of "let the right one in", also well worth seeing. oh, and i almost forgot, my wife is producing the next feature from johan kling who made "darling", a huge indie hit in sweden that's also done well at festivals internationally. not sure if it's been released in many other countries though. his upcoming film is called "trust me" and it looks like it will be very interesting. especially the locations, since i scouted them myself. :-)

Yes, doubtless Tom Tykwer is one of the most significant of the prominent directors among the younger generation. I´d recommend his film "Heaven":

The "slightly" older guys like Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas), Wolfgang Petersen (The Boat), Roland Emmerich (The day after tomorrow)... went all to Hollywood ;-). But we also have a couple of very promising young dp´s like Hans Christian Schmid, Christian Petzold... and some others. Fatih Akin made also some good stuff: He is of turkish descent and naturally his themes are the problems of coexistence between Turks + Germans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatih_Ak%C4%B1n

"Downfall" is good and "Stalingrad" I saw a german film recently but can't remember the name of it. It was about an experiment conducted at a university where the test subjects were prisoners and guards. Anyone?
