C200: The Canon C200 Petition

It was pointed out that in another thread Matthew Allard had commented on a post on Newshooters that someone from Canon Japan said the new codec would be 10 bit. Here's some tweets to Brent Ramsey (Technical Advisor at Canon USA) about it. Notice he says 8 bit, someone points to the Matthew Allard thing, and then he stops responding. Could mean he had already given his answer and didn't want to keep repeating himself, could mean he checked and they told him to keep quiet about it and have changed their minds.

Here's the Tweets

This is the page with the original post, you've gotta scroll down a bit for the conversation.

good stuff!

and yes, im sure there are lots of politics in this one...

but the best way to get people to give up is to offer them no hope.

and of course the best counter is to not stop...

:)

its 2018! enough with the 8 bit already

My hunch is that Allard was told the wrong info. By mistake.

This doesn't mean that Canon shouldn't have the internal 10-bit.

PS. There's, of course, a "natural" solution. 8-bit in the winter 2018 and 10-bit by the summer 2018 or whenever C300 MKIII comes out. It will help Canon save its face. Just a bit of it. Like a nose or something.

I have a word from Canon insider that they saw the petition and they will put 422/10 bit immediately, they didn't think of it at all :)
