The 4k Theater Showing

I'll quote my own reply on such a thread from DVinfo, because I saw the screening too:

the watch and car looked soooo clean, I also thought it was computer generated.
And the close ups of people were very beautiful to watch!

And the camera is a lot bigger then it looks on pictures, I thought!
Congratulations to the RED team, and it was nice to meet some people (Rob, Jim, Graeme, Barend,...) in real life.
Thanks to RED for this experience, and I hope they will have even more succes in the upcoming days of IBC!

PS: the REDCINE software comes for free with the camera! Really a nice surprise!

And I would like to add this: RED website said early on: there is no excuse to use 35mm anymore... And they kept their promise!

In 8 hours I'll be on a plane.
In 12 hours I will see it with my own eyes.

Your reports are sounding REALLY promising guys, thanks! I will of course post my experiences tommorrow. (hopefully, say, about 13hours from now..)

I also saw the footage today. It's like clean 35mm film footage. With a nice warm touch to it, it didn't remind you of HD video. It has a kind of clean high end still photography feel to it, but with nice motion it.
The guy who introduced it appologized for it, been raw material, no dead pixel corrections, etc. Well, this was azaming enough for me! In one close-up shot, there was a tiny white spot visible on the object that was filmed (sunglasses). The guy told us that they didn't saw the spot during shooting, but only afterwards on the screen. So imagine how much detail you capture with it.

Keep in mind that many DI houses (including Technicolor, a beta tester) are not satisfied with the way black levels are registered on the SXRD projectors. Those are opinions, though, and I myself think the SXRD projectors are simply amazing, and remind me of IMAX presentations.

What I'm getting at is that even though the IBC footage has occurred, I don't think anyone truly knows the scope of what Red can do, which is awesome and remarkable......

ha ha good old u tube.. nice stuff. nothing like watching a 4k screening down to 300kb ha ha ha.

ha ha sorry didnt mean to come off like that.. I love it.. Im glad someone did it cause it really makes "christmas morning" a little more complete :)

thanks to Junyo for posting that on You Tube. It is pretty funny having a 4K demo get squeezed all the way down to crappy web compression. Just a little bit of loss occuring..haha

Damn. I am all excited about the fact that I am finally gonna get to "upgrade" and get a pair of hvx's and a studio after being out of the loop for a good long while, and here this crap is making me feel bad. That's ok. I'll be the first one to get RED TWO when it comes out. yah, right
